Printable Version Thomo’s Guide to preservation

This Article will I hope answer a few questions and add a bit of substance to issues that crop up on an almost daily basis on this site. It is all about what mainly mechanical, or man made things still exist and where they can be found. This article does not contain details of buidings and structures, it is about transport.  In this beloved Isle of ours we have created many ground breaking machines that set us apart from the rest of the world, sadly apart from railway engines, very few of these still exist. However, around the world, many of these wonderful contraptions can still be found. Throughout my life, I have been fascinated by how things work, and who built them. I have been so happy when building models of things from a bygone age, in fact, I made "Ships in Bottles" for a living for a good few years. I was proud when a shop in Windsor declared that I was "Making the antiques of tommorow" the research for this was to say the least, extensive. "So" I have a large collection of information available, and thanks to modern IT, it is growing by the day. This part of the article is intended as a brief oversight, and the rest of it will come under  separate headings, IE, TGTP (Thomos guide to preservation), for the first part of the heading, SHIPS , AIRCRAFT, RAILWAYS,  For the second part, and in the case of Ships, sub divided again into Warships or Merchant.  and once more into Steam or Sail.  If any of you think that all of this is a bit pointless, then next time you go away on holiday to some of the more exotic places on the planet, you may be surprised by what can be found, other than the obvious attractions. Many of the Members who live abroad, have some of these things on their doorstep, and I look forward to their contributions. Finally, although much of what will follow is Maritime, and "Barlick" is not, there are still many links as there is with aviation. I hope that you all enjoy what is to follow. Thomo.

Hey Thomo. This is a great idea, but I can't find what was to follow...details of where to find the preserved Machines of England. Did you change your mind or get too busy with other things?
