Obviously if they are being used as residences they should be taxed as such.  The Australian PM has the right attitude.

I agree Cameron had some bottle to air what has been a taboo subject.
Clarkson & Gang (Top Gear) can get away with calling the Mexicans names on the BBC, but when Carol Thatchter referred to a Golliwog when referring to someone who had hair like a Golliwog, she was Sacked.
Double standards at the BBC  !!!! That's a reason I thought Cameron had some bottle, the Beeb will be gunning for him now just watch.

Had she been Carol Kinnock it would have been perfectly acceptable.

Peter, I don't know about Blackburn but read letters column in last Friday's BET. Same report about Pendle but a letter from the council says there are none. Is there any official number from Blackburn council?

Frank, I wasn't talking about Cameron's speech on multi-culturalism but as a matter of factI thought there was a kernel of sense in what he said but his presentation was too robust. Improvements in race relations do not come from speeches advocating 'muscular liberalism' coinciding with a rally by the English Defence League extremists but by constant quiet work with responsible ethnic groups behind the scenes. Bad timing and despite Hague's defence, not an accident. This is dangerous territory.

Stanley, is Nelson considered part of Pendle?  I can't help but think that there are fewer resposible ethnic groups to discuss this with (that seems to be the case in Canada) the traditionalgroups don't seem to have a need to discuss things, and the newer ethnic groups don't  want to discuss anything.

" coinciding with a rally by the English Defence League extremists "
Don't you think that adds to the issue/debate ?? the EDL believe they have been over whelmed by Immigrants in Luton.
I don't support the EDL but they have a point in certain areas of the Country. Not so very long ago I drove on Blackburn road in Accrington and I was taken a back by how the area had changed, how many people wearing traditional Pakistani dress etc. Nowt wrong with that on a Friday, but they don't wish to be integrated into the British Society on any other day of the week.

My information came from a reporter with one of the Blackburn newspapers. Some things do not make the headlines for PC reasons and it is not practical to annoy those who make up a large majority of those who's votes a local MP may depend upon. Here in Barlick we are not inundated and racial tensions are not high, sadly of course this is not the case in other areas. I have never been happy that after years of legislation our meat processing industry which now has to abide by rules that made it more humane, can have a parallel industry alongside of it which has its own set of rules that are not. The old saying "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" has a lot of truth in it.

I imagine the number of places of worship in Blackburn, Pendle or wherever is known and relatively small.  Where this '1200 in Blackburn', and most of them 'houses' has come from, I don't know.

But.....six blokes walking into a house to recite the Koran and praise Allah no more makes said house a mosque than six blokes walking into a house to recite the Bible and praise God makes the house a church.  On the latter, it is called Bible Study or a Prayer Meeting, and it goes on all the time.

1200 'mosques' in Blackburn, houses actually, and so exempt from Council Tax, is I bet an urban myth.  But a good one.  Urban myths are designed in part to spread misinformation and scare folk.

Got to say I agree with Frank on this one.  Last time I flew into Manchester Airport, I thought the pilot got it wrong and we landed in Karachi.  The halal meat regs, the Archbishop of Canterbury saying that we should consider sharia law in some cases, the failure to crack down harshly on arranged marriages and even "honour killings"- it seems they want their own autonomous society within the UK, and they have a number of highplaced people willing to support them in that, in the name of 'diversity'.

I don't think we should adopt sharia law here, but I do thnk there is some evidence to prove that Halal slaughter, ie cutting an animals throat, is the least traumatic and cleanest way to kill an animal.
