Steve, the thing that always amazed me about America was that there is no good cheese, or if there is I never found it. Wallace and Grommitt were the best thing that happened to the Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes. The stuff with the fuit in you rejected is quite good actually, i was given some and was surprised. Next time you see it try it, you might be converted!

Wow you did well Stanley. Turkey is roasting nicely in the oven, the stuffing is made, the veg. are prepared - let's get at it. Seems very strange - just the two of us, daughter rang from Madeira where they were sitting on sun beds watching the boats in the harbour!!

Slow roast Dexter butty went down well with Susan. I made a veggie soup with the gravy and whizzed it up to a cream. We had half a bowl of that as well. Warmed her up nicely because she walked over the fields from Earby to be with me (and back!) I shall roast the half turkey today and tea will be some sort of butty and soup! Moh, most butchers welcome the chance to do a wrap-up when they're closing for a day or two. People just don't ask. Think of how much perishable food goes into the skip.

My Dexter is sitting by my side grumbling !.....
He's not finished his breakfast , either (unheard of , that)
It's nothing to do with your butty though ,Stanley ........It's because Mum's Jack Russell is on heat , and he can't get at her .
And talk about bad timing ........I bought him a Teddy from Age Concern the other day , but he's taken to practising with that , so it had to get hidden when we had company yesterday ........He was NOT HAPPY !

Speaking of teddies - out Shih Tzu Sam loved his soft toys (he knew them all by name too and would bring the correct one when asked) - we were passing a charity shop in Pickering once, they had a basket of soft toys outside - he calmly picked a small teddy up and set off with it. I had to go in the shop and pay 25p and apologise for the theft!!
All kinds of food tonight , our grandchildren and their families are coming.

Exactly the right thing to do Moh. A happy dog! Jack got his usual present from Ann across the street of 4 squeaky toys. Ten minutes flat to destroy them! He hates the squeak!
Soup and turkey butty for tea. I cut the remains of the brisket up and put it in the soup. Same today. I think I might save enough meat for a butty tonight, put the rest of the half turkey in the PC, cook it down in the gravy from when it was roasted and make another nourishing soup! Nothing is wasted!

Cath made a lovely buffet for us all yesterday with a nice variety of pastries, salmon and salad. Went down a treat - including the fruit and pork stuffing we bought for the turkey on Christmas Day and then made our own. Had home made cranberry sauce with the bird as well. Just cranberries , a bramley and a little sugar rendered on a gentle simmer. We'll never buy the stuff in jars again. Nolic

My neighbour plated me up a roast beef dinner yesterday and brought it round! Very tasty it was aswell.
I'll return the gesture on New Year's Eve with a Thai Green Curry.
I like where I live - neighbours don't interfere, but we are all there for each other - just as it should be!

Just as it used to be Anni. Our buffet went down well last night - shame three of them were smothered in colds and could not taste it properly. There was too much as usual so they went home with 'doggy bags'! Cold turkey with all the trimmings tonight.

Big pan of turkey and veggie soup and a bit of breast kept back for butties. I lived on butties when I was driving and remember well the week of turkey/goose/pork butties after Xmas! I used to be glad to see the back of it!

Moh, That reminds me of the year we were hard up and I bought a goose cheap (10/-). It must have been over twenty years old! I couldn't pluck it so I skinned it and that was a major mistake. All the flavour and fat is in the skin. It was inedible even when we made a curry out of it! It all got thrown away. Lesson was, never skin a duck or a goose!

I'm getting a bit saded with stews. Have defrosted part of the wrap-up. Two packets of sausage meat came out first. I'll take a view later but my head is moving towards hamburgers, egg and chips.
