The Beeb's Click programme aired today, in this episode they hired a Botnet which is the what most of todays malware is about.  It's been give a rough time by many in the industry because the BBC joined the bad guys to make the programme.  So for all you complete non techies who wonder what this geek is on about when he's talking computer security, here it is by the Beeb.

If you live outside the UK you probably can't watch it and if you do its only available for a limited time.

This is it being lambasted on a techie news site:

Pluggy...I just watched the BBC component of your post on "iPlayer"....very scary !

P C  machines running microsoft operating systems are very vulnerable...

Why is that not the case with Mac machines ?

I recently switched to Mac because I was completely sick  of the regime of "Ante Everything "  procedures I had to go through  on my PC , to keep it running at all.

I was told by a friend of mine that there have only been a handful of viruses that have ever infected Macs , compared to the 120,000 (and rising daily)  that my spybot software was checking for before I ditched the Dell..

What do you think ?

The jury is out on that Bradders. Macs don't attract the attention that Windows PCs do because there are less of them. But many would also argue that Macs are more secure. there are no certainly no drivebys because it suddenly asking to confirm your password is something of a giveaway.  I had a Mac for 3 years (which I got for more or less the same reasons as you) but It was going to be expensive to upgrade so I got a PC and put Linux on it.  My daughter has Windows but I didn't give her Admin rights when I last cleaned all the c**p off it.  It hasn't been a problem since.

I just suffer the Spam, I'm not helping it along.  Wink
