The somewhat blurred photo below is of my father Frank Harrison....behind him are his cousin Jack Simpson being held by aunt Bell Simpson - wife of William Simpson who had the Butcher's shop in Park Road, Barlick.
Can you identify the building in the background which has a sign saying "Binns.....House"
By the time I was born in 1945 the Simpsons all lived in Park Road..

From the classical pillar, size of the doorway and the highly polished brass bell push it looks like a public building and I'd guess a registry office, town hall or similar building. Doesn't ring a bell with me for Barlick. There was a large store called Binns over Yorkshire way and something says Skipton to me but it's only a guess. Perhaps a holiday snap?

Looks like a boarding house - Blackpool or Morecambe maybe.

It was a shot in the dark....thanks for the responses. I don't think the folk in the photo would have gone on holiday together....though I do agree that it looks as if it could be a boarding house. I should have mentioned that the photo was taken in about 1927.
Coincidentally, when I Googled - Binns Barnoldswick - the first result was a reference to Craven House and a Mr Binns Solicitor, who is a partner in the firm of Walker Forster....Craven House being the subject of a recent post of mine.

Just discovered quite by chance that there was a Binns Department store in Blackpool in the 1980's - might have gone that far back. Nolic

Iam certain it is a guest houes, i have blown the photo up and the second word on the bottom line is "house" so I am assuming that it is "BINNS GUEST HOUSE"

On the Poulton Flyde community web site is a ref to a Mr Binns who ran a guest house for agricultural workers. They had some connection to Halsteads, and there is a mention of Burnley !!!!!!!!!!

I'm almost sure it is a letter T, Frank......and that the sign does read "Binns Guest House".
I had been under the impression that it was somewhere in Barlick - but apparently not. As they say - "good shout" - MOH and Gus....I now reckon that the best bet is that it's a Guest House in Morecambe or Blackpool .....

The lad in the front (Frank) appears to be wearing a school blazer. Can the insignia on it be determined by blowing that section up? (Would one wear a school uniform on 'holidays'?)

Children did wear their blazers 'for best'. I have a photo of me in mine in London for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
