Hi everyone, you may have noticed a new pic up on the site - Eromanga,
The Furthest Service Station from the Sea - I've had this pic (photo-copy) for a few months now, and almost thrown it away a few times, but looking at it again I thought OG might find it interesting.
Eromanga is in Queensland and famous for being the furthest town from any of our oceans.  It was originally established in the early 1880's because huge amounts of opal had been found  in the area.  The local hotel (The Old Royal) was built in 1885 , and is still housed in the original building.  The oil and gas basins there today produce around 1.5million barrels of oil per year.

If your interested to see the area or find out more about it,  just google 'Eromanga'.

If anyone wants to go to an 'out of the way - far from the maddening crowd' kind of place, I reckon this might be one of them.

Looking forward to seeing some of your Unusual Pictures / Places.

One website I have looked at suggests that Coton in the Elms in Derbyshire is the furthest point form the sea in the UK.

Never heard of this place, Cath, untill you brought it to our attention...sounds a bit too remote for my liking... but thanks for telling us about it.
Not being a techno wizzard I can't do a link...but in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, there is a house built into the rock..called ironically enough, the house in the rock...how poetic we Yorkshire folk are! Maybe someone can put up a pic for me...
have googled it and it turns out there are no really goo pics, but I will put a link up anyway..mm..yes I think I can mange the technology!

I mended the link for you Belle......  If you put a link in, highlight it, copy then click on the short piece of chain under font menu.  Paste link into the top box and hit OK.  That converts the text to a working link.

Checked out the house in the rock Belle, gosh I hope their  entrance is  via a road at the back, otherwise it would be a steep climb up a lot of steps every day.

There is no back Cathy, as the house is built into the cliff..the only windows and doors are at the front.

This is part of the Painted Desert in the Badlands of Nevada.  I passed through when I drove Route 66.  The wierdest lanscape I have ever seen and evidently it's the remains of what used to be rainforest which died out as the climate changed.

Thanks Stanley.
Forwarded to me via email, I don't know who took the pic, but's it's obviously somewhere in the Australian bush.
Imagine driving down a country lane and seeing a puddle shaped like the map of Britain ...   I think it's really cool.  Smile

Not so unusual; this is the kind of scene you'll come across almost every day in Nigeria, where I go to work sometimes:

(Actually it is unusual because the truck has got treads on its tyres, it's got brake lights and even more unusual is that the container is actually attached to the trailer and didn't just fall off, squashing a couple of motorcyclists.)

(Can't seem to get these pics to appear on here!)

Ben, are you sure that isn't a steeplejacks' lorry after they've had a night on the Guinness?
