Its the new sculpture in Burnley which is well worth a visit  and I would be interested to hear what you think of it?I  went to see it before Christmas one late morning1

The tree came into my vision on the road up to Crown Point it reminded me of a great python rising up to attack or just looking out over the Pendle Valley taking it all in .
Blinking and looking again, the snake had gone and a tree was there!

It was cold. the sky pale grey, matching the steel of the tree. which was the first thing i noticed on approaching it!
The fogginess and dampness of that morning added to the beauty of the sculpture that day.
The air was still with not a hint of a breeze
I want to see it in all the seasons, when it sings and rings

Is it as good as the angel of the north? That sculpture never ceases to give me pleasure, I love it's aeroplane wings and it's industrial rust colours it is just so right for it's environment, strong and sturdy, a faithful sentinel with all the past of industrialisation clinging to it.

Another, no it wasnt the main reason i went to crown point,, tut  tut! we were visiting family and we stopped off to look although many years ago it was a courting spot for us! Lol ! Oh! i meant a Cobra with a hooded  bit on its head too, not a Python.

I havent seen the Angel from the North, seen the Wicker man?The donkeys too made of Chicken wire in Rugby are lovely. I love angels anyway and am thinking of getting myself a pair of wings. Lol!  wait and see

To find it go up Manchester Road in Burnley, turn left opposite the Bull & Butcher and follow the road you will see it on your left.

Moh, we went walking up there a few weeks ago on a wild , windy and foggy Monday. The sculpture was eerily whistling. It was a fascinating effect. I think there should be some seats up there so that you can just sit and listen to it and enjoy. We wanted to stay but there was nowhere to sit

It is a fascinating sound - as you say Sue it would be nice to have seats and it is a shame it is not nearer the road so that disabled people would be able to enjoy it too.  When we went it was freezing cold so we had no wish to stay too long

There's another sculpture from the same Panopticons scheme above Haslingden. It's a big disc on a truncated tripod, which glows green in the dark.

There's a pic on here: http://www.panopticons.uk.net/
