The following is a photo from 1983 of Harry Holmes with his goats. Harry rented a piece of land at the back of St James Road, Blackburn, where he had a hen pen and kept goats and pigs, probably from the 1940s onwards. Note the typical construction of the fence - he worked for the council so he probably had access to a variety of materials! In the background are what were then new houses, built on old landfill (!) and the grey band is the roof of what had been Hollinshead Mill. A school was later built on this land.

Love the fence, proper hen pen construction.

Heres one for Stanley. I was looking through my old snaps and came across this one of a 17 Pounder that I took at a museum in an old army camp somewhere in Wales a couple of years ago. I remeber thinking at the time I'll take this one for Stanley, but never got round to posting it.
I bet if Stanley had kept his "piece" in this condition though he would have been on a charge!

I'm afraid you're right Ian. We were always in concourse condition, mind you, we spent most of our time cosseting them.
I did this pic this morning when I went out to do the carpet shop. Worth posting to compare with the one on the preceding page.

Couldn't resist it, here's 203027 at Gatow just after we had got back from a shoot at Putlos on the Baltic coast. Bit cleaner I think.

Re. the Church Street photo from 1983 on previous page:
Is that "Gay Antiques" we see on the end there?
And next to it - the precursor to Bravo Lingerie, perhaps?
As for so many Special Constables, could this be due to the fact that it was taken in 1916? A sort of WWI Dad's Army, in case "the Bosch" invaded?

Hesther, 'Kay Antiques' I think. Yes, but they sold directoire knickers as well! You could be right about the specials, a lot of industrial unease as well.

There's a great artistic photo of the USS Texas (now a museum ship) on this Wikipedia page. Click on the photo to see a full resolution version.

This photo is particularly interesting to me because it shows the premises of W. Atkinson & Sons, Tailors on the left of the picture.
The scene is Church Street and a Jubilee procession (don't know exactly which jubilee but I'm guessing it will be c. 1910.
W. Atkinson wrote a history of Barnoldswick and one of his sons used to live in our present day house.
