New Year, new topic. If you want to see the old one do a forum search for same title but 2008.

If a country needs help for the old, the children, the wounded and ill does it matter what their politics are? This is not total war, it is two lots of patriots falling out with each other and in the end they will have to talk. If they don't more will perish. Never forget the history. Israel was an artificial creation on Palestinian land and with hindsight was always going to be a Balkan situation. If you are looking for who is responsible, you must look close to home.

The other thing that grabbed my attention was the disparity between the IMF estimate of  how deep the UK recession/depression will be and that of the Mighty Godron. With Broon at 1 and the IMF at 10 I'd guess at 6 or 7. That's all they are doing, guessing. Meanwhile, as one commentator put it this morning, Godron and Dave shout at each other in a rising storm. Leadership... Politics should be put on one side and statesmanship put in its place. Arguing the toss and doing nothing concrete won't cut it. Look at what Obama is doing, he's focussing on quick start infrastructure projects, exactly right and definitely the way to go.

Just heard the report of the Melbourne man dropping his baby child 200 feet off a bridge into the Yarra River. It survived the fall but died from massive injuries. Words fail me at times...

I agree with Herb on that one. I have just posted elsewhere about them dancing on the streets in Gaza on 9/11. Ref: Israel, didnt the Jews move there when Moses was around, long before Britain became a World power. Aid is all very well in the wake of natural disasters but often falls into the wrong hands when conflict is involved.

Stan - I really belive they've lost the art of statesmanship altogether - when was the last time you could honestly say we had a statesman or woman who actively put the collective good before the minority interested in politics???   Wilberforce?? (of course I am biased there based on location!)

Has anyone promoted aid to israel to repair the rocket damage?  Iran finances the rockets, let them finance the consequences!

I liked Evan Davies' assessment of the Davros conference. He reckoned that the most prevalent mood was one of bewilderment. It's as though the men who control the finances still don't undestand how it could all go pear-shaped so quickly. The latest candidate is that the trigger was oil speculators driving the price of energy up and that was the tipping point. There are encouraging signs that the back bench MPs and the committees are beginning to focus in on the Godron legacy..... Even they are beginning to question the not-me-guv defence. About time!

The Israeli's are a proud people Herb, asking for aid is probably low on their agenda.

Herb, Thomo, how about Israel pays for its damage to Gaza, and Hamas pays for its damage to Israel?

Just replying to the post by Big Kev , above, ...

John Martyn's passing is such sad news....his real name was Iain McGeachy ....My friend Tilly used to live quite near to him in Kilkenny... and said what a nice bloke he was.

He battled some demons and it looks like one got him in the end......I have a tear in my eye just thinking about THAT VOICE.....

I'm going to buy the paper now and play "ZOLID AIR" and probably blub while I'm reading the obit.

For those who don't know his work (and they are probably few).....please look it up you won't be sorry!

I didn't think i did know his work, but it turns out at least two of my favourite songs, sung to me a long time ago by a friend, were his songs.."May you never" being one and "look over the hill" beng the other. Wish I could hear them again but can't get the sound to work on my pc at present so will have to leave that for later.

Tizer, how about Iran paying for all damage?  The UN pleading for millions for Gaza is a stretch.  The UK could fire rockets at France, take a few hits in return, beg for financial aid, and voila, no need for further bail outs to right the economy.  Terrorism becomes a business, just like banking.

Herb, talking of terrorists and bankers, the banking world (banks, financial institutions, credit ratings agencies) have succeeded in doing magnitudes more damage to the world than any terrorists have ever managed!
