As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

I'm so pleased for you Conor. I'm also pleased because we were right when we recognised your talent early on. None of us are 'art critics' but we all instinctively knew that it was quality. Please post the exact details of the prize/exhibition so I can start a list on the back of the original. Apart from anything else, it looks as though it was a good investment!

In terms of sheer skill and quality I think the last dog you did was even better, you are getting beyond technical skill into that mysterious facility of being able to capture something far deeper than reality. You are going to get even better as you mature.

(I'll bet your minders were pleased as well!)

mum said at the competition that 'stanleys going to be pleased'. they were all asking about you. they wanted to know who you were and how did i come to draw it for you. it was a bit crazy for a while. a lady that has watched me grow up, an older friend of mums was there and she was like my agent!! haha it was like a comedy scene. mum jumped into my arms when she seen the 2 first's and a second and my nan and gramp couldnt stop smiling and gramp the big softy had tears in his eyes.
i didnt take any business cards with me. urgh trust me not to think and everyone was asking for my number and how much would i charge to do them one. dad had one business card left in his wallet and nan had one so only two got handed out.
i won £20 for stanley, £10 for melanie in vouchers for a craft shop and £20 for the london camera exchange. and then i got £35 for selling the photograph of the bee.
mum said yesterday that she is going to get you a copy of the news paper on thursday and post to you for your records. a bit more provandance for you.
i rang my old great- grandad to tell him how i got on and hes said that if i need any money to start a career he will help me and also my dads mum said exactly the same!!! LOL' yeah i said i need a car'!!!! but i dont think they meant that but it was worth a try LOL back to the drawing board as they say!
ive got to go to school today!! ergh on a sunday!! extra towards the pe exams and then i am competing later this afternoon so i am allowed to leave early, wooooppp

Oh well done! Take great encouragement..and inch those prices up! (no honestly, I am not mercenary..but we artists often under sell ourselves...leaving those with debatable talent to get thousands for "art instillations!")

Conor, all good stuff but keep cool! Remember the Roman emperors, when they were given a triumph by the Senate there was always a slave riding in the chariot whispering in their ear 'Remember, all this will pass'. Always a good thing to bear in mind, life has a habit of kicking you in the teeth just when you thought you were bullet-proof. It's as well to remember it and half expect it. Then, when the inevitable set-back comes it doesn't send you into a decline, you just re-group and attack it again! Sorry to be a Jeremiah but we all need that bloke whispering in our ear. Please thank your mum for me.

Well that's your moment of triumph over then! I don't agree with Stanley, only because it is natural for artists to doubt themselves, and if you whisper too often in your own ear "this is not going to last!" sooner or later you don't bother doing it any more...what you must do ...and maybe this is what he meant, is keep a realistic view of what you can and can't do... but I think there's no worry for you there, you have so much sensible support, you won't be allowed to stray into bighead country!

Sorry Belle, I thought it was obvious that it was the fame that the slave was whispering about. I agree with you, he'll be alright but it doesn't do any harm to whisper in his ear every now and again!

my dad says that you should pick everyones brains, and listen to all advice and take bits from everyone and make a balanced choice on what you think sounds right, he said the older the person that gives advice the better (the crumblies!!) as they have had the experience and have either lived through the problems themselves or have worked out a better way of doing something quicker (dads a service engineer) they have just lived longer and have more of lifes experiences, you would be an idiot to take no notice of a crumblies advice! so i doubt that you are wrong stanley.  not that your a crumblie or anything young stanley, just older and wiser than me.
i think mum probably has the biggest influence on me, she is so driven its hard not to ride on the crest of what drives her, and my dad is more serious and grounded and my coach is also a good man, and my grandparents are behind me 100% so a bit of everyone including my extended family here should see me ok. gotta go gcse exam today! ergh
