Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.
As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.
He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!
[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs. His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history.... he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault. He had too bad a start.....]

By hook or by crook Stanley, it would have found its way home.

Jack is on jankers this morning. He ran off with a bitch on heat last night and many thanks to Ringo who went off and toured the streets looking for him. He found him after an hour and came back for me to go and fet him. I am not impressed and Jack knows it.........

Oh dear. I can imagine how worried you were Stanley. I'm glad he is back safe and sound.
Well done Ringo.

He knows he's blotted his copybook..... Very subdued this morning. Wasn't his fault just a daft neighbour who lets their dog loose all the time, irresponsible. What made it worse was that while Ringo was out searching the town for him I was sweating cooking chicken for his grub! You're right Mel, I was relieved to see him back, never strayed before, I shall have to watch him carefully because once a dog has been feral they can soon get the taste for it again.

Don't think so. It has set Jack back 6 months in terms of his trust in me. He's frightened of me again..... Once they have run feral it is a very deep instinct. Only cure is patient routine.

Oh that must be awful Stanley after all the work to build his trust in the first place.

It's been hanging round the gate all day with another dog, really upsetting Jack.... Am treating him with TLC and chicken..... He's worth the effort Moh.....

He is a lovely dog. I thought people were not allowed to let their dogs roam unattended - is there no dog warden in Barlick?

Comrade, you put a lovely phrase up commenting on the solution to sexual intoxication. Where's it gone ? I don't think anyone would have found it offensive. Nolic

Comrade did you mean the 'cut off their noses'? If so, it's under an earlier topic. Belle thate is one dog warden for the whole of Pendle and he has more than one job. Also, he cannot interfere with a dog unless it can be proved to be dangerous and the level of proof is so high it is ludicrous. Saving rate-payers money again......
