Smile  I will !, but it will have to wait until I am back in England, its far easier face to face than over the phone. Not sure when next trip 'home' will be though.

Joe, for some reason I couldn't copy the link..but the site is easy enough to find type; in Clogs and Gansy there are a few knitting sites but the one you want is about five down and has the name MikeClark in the link.

I think this is the Mike Clarke who wrote the definitive book on the L&L Canal.

Hi everyone. I just joined the forum and came across this thread which is of interest to me as I used to live at Bleak House.

It is situated at the 'King Hill' end of hodge lane, the first of (now) three houses if you walk along from manchester road.

My father bought the house in the late sixties from the estate of Ida Sagar and dealt through (i think) the executors which were a Mr and Mrs Widdup who lived at the time in Elm Tree House in Thornton in Craven.

Even for the sixties it was old fashioned with no electricity.

He even bought the contents of the house, odd pieces of which I still have. I remember my dad showing me a trunk which he found in one of the 7 bedrooms. In the bottom of the trunk were a few old press cuttings of Ida when she was an opera singer.

HCF, welcome to the site. Lots about the Sagars on here if you dig for it. The Forum search is a good tool, look in the drop-down menu at the top of the page. There is a series of articles from the BET, 'Rock Solid' that contains much about the quarries. Look in 'Stanley's View' on the forum main menu or use the search set for subject only.

HCF if you still have the cuttings scan them into your computer and put them up on here.. I am sure the Sagar hunter's would be delighted (I made that sound like a double barrelled name, I mean those doing Sagar trees!)
