I've got a nasty little one for you, the last Year Book ever issued by BUDC. I don't know whether it will scan. I'll drop it through your letter box........

you're right Stanley, it looks like a challenge, some of the writing is a bit small, might have to find me specs

Just had a look through the book/diary and there is all sorts of info in there everything from how much rainfall there was to the price of putting a body in the mortuary.

I think it is going to be mainly a typing job, otherwise it will be hard to understand when it is published to the site.

R, I was thinking, scan the pages as JPEGS, increase size and feed the files into your OCR programme. It should pick the words up OK if they are bigger. I don't think you need to print just save as files and scan in. Worth trying. I've been scanning some of Hargreaves but you spend so much time editing I don't know whether it's worth the effort......

There is no problem scanning them in and the OCR picks it up OK, the problem is in the formatting when it is put onto the web.....it just makes it a bit more time consuming but it will be worthwhile.

Yes you're right about the formatting, I find it's best to keep everything very simple. As soon as you start to use bells and whistles the wheels come off.........

Stanley has received a copy of 'James Rushton and his Times. 1896-1956' via BBJ and courtesy of Nandy. I'm transcribbing it....

I have a 1929-1930 book of Minutes of Council and Committee Meetings of the Barnoldswick UDC if this is of interest for transcription. I don't mind sitting and typing away for a few nights.
