Yes. And first let me apologise to all of our ex RN members for the Americanism, but it is probably more well known amongst the landlubbers than our own version. DO'Y'HEAR THERE. Right, I have just spoken with Calluna, and we are going for next weekend. Start Saturday 12th January. The object of this exercise is to get "Frajous Day" H & E + Dog back into the bosom of our community in the shortest possible time and with the minimum amount of fuss. Make no mistake, this is not going to be a pleasure cruise, the available time on the Saturday has to be used to its full potential, and if we are to finish the day at the bottom of a flight of locks, then I would like it to be Greenberfield or the top of Bank Newton. The ideal scenario is to have two teams at each flight of locks, this way the boat can be kept moving almost constantly, swing bridges can be dealt with by the onboard team. THEREFORE a small number of willing volunteers would be of great help and be much appreciated. Just as important is a plan to make sure that everyone and everything is in the right place at the right time. During the next few days and working with Cally and anyone else who wishes to be involved, this plan will be developed, anyone wishing to contact me personally may do so by either personal message on this site, or within this topic, or e/mail me at the castle7@btinternet.com. or by calling 01282 861961 either during this weekend or after 1400 hrs during the coming week. I cannot promise good weather and whatever it does, Warm suitable clothing and footwear will be required. The canal will be open as we understand at present, but this has to be done soon as the forcast for later in the month is pretty horendous, if they have got it right then you would not want to be outside, let alone on the canal. SO, LETS DO IT AND GET THEM HOME. Thank you and good night.

That would be Frabjous Day with a B - but as Thomo hasn't signwritten the boat yet I dare say it doesn't matter at this stage! Cool

Thanks, Thomo, for your stirring words.

We've got Travis and his crew lined up, but as Thomo says, it's always handy to have others we can call upon.

One particularly useful activity would be for drivers to pick people up or take back to their car, etc. For example, Elaine would need to be on board to learn about steering and operating the locks etc, but her car would be left at Silsden, so it would be great to liaise with someone to take her back there from wherever we'd got to on the Saturday evening, with a repeat performance on the Sunday.

Edited: Forgot the most important bit! Refreshments  throughout the day will be provided. There is neither the expectation nor requirement for anyone to bring anything other than warm, waterproof clothing.

Thanks everyone!

We'll have to make sure that we don't have too many people flying around on the boat, though, as it could turn into a watery version of the Keystone Kops!

I'm happy for Thomo to co-ordinate things as, let's face it, I'll be:

a) Clueless

b) In a state of complete shock and petrifiedness (?)

Also, Travis is a well organised lad and so between the two of them we should end up with a very smooth operation.Go to Top of Page

Thank you all, and good wishes are just as welcome as physical help. Watch this site over the next few days for the plan and how we will achieve our aim. I have just spoken with Cally again and we are aiming for a meeting, possibly at the Anchor Salterforth on Thursday evening, and thanks to Panbiker for a rapid response. "WATCH THIS SPACE".  Oh yes, and to Paul Harald, are you out there come on. You are high on my list of "would like you to be with us". I must now away to my virtuous couch so. Goodnight all.

I work till 10pm on Thursday so might not be able to make it unless you are still there after that. But I can drive to Bank Newton then walk down to Gargrave to help on that stretch.

To Ringo and Big Kev, many thanks, you will be most welcome. The highest concentration of locks is in the section from the bottom of Gargrave to the top at Bank Newton. The swing bridges are all on the section from Silsden to Gargrave, a few of these are normally left open. I am working on a plan that will utilise everyone involved to the greatest effect. The main object being to keep the boat moving as much as is possible. More details will follow shortly. Again many thanks. Must be Barlickers!

I am more than a bit confused..where is the boat now? will all the help be needed Sat urday, or do you envisage Sunday being a transit day too? Can't make any meetings but would love to know the itinery so that we could help where and if we can.
