Whilst reading this site i spotted Harden, listed as a locality, my connection is through my G Grandfather, George Bacon,b.1855 Belper. In the 1871 census he his listed as a railway porter,, lodging with a John Cousin, 34, Eliza, 24, children, Dale,7, William, 1, the address is difficult to read, but looks like Cockalshall Houses, Harden,  My grandfather married a Emily Judson, b.Ingrow, her father, James was b. in Haworth, 1815,, their 1 st born John Edward,my grandfather, m. 1904, Kate Lister, b 1887, Oakworth. Other names in the family from the area, Peckett, Cartwright, Just wondering if anyone has a connection with these families?

Hello Bodger
The local Harden was a part of the parish of Thornton in Craven consisting of about 12  farms and situated in the hills roughly to the east of Kelbrook and Earby.
I think the Harden you have a connection with is more likely to be the one near Bingley.

Anthony, I'd say Wendy is right.  The other addresses are the clue.

Is there not a Harden near to Clapham in North Yorshire - there used to be a small mental hospital there that's now a bunk house.?
Is Harden Nick the area above Kelbrook?

Tony, even if your ancestors had come from here, they would still have been Yorkshire folk!  Only the boundary changes in the 1970's put this area in Lancashire.

Bodger interestingly your pic bears a startling resemblance to a member of my family...our ancestors came from Haworth ...and ended up in lancs.....summat to do with a change from wool to cotton.  But I don't think we have any of your surnames in our tree.

Belle, I hope it's not your goat, but on a more serious note, my father married 4 known times, and my mother married twice, plus i have been told that i have a half brother, b. 1944/7 in Denmark, result of a liasion my dad had while in the RAF, i am told that my grandfather was a randy old sod, Keighley, to Barlick, only a good "bike ride"", who knows ?

Stanley, how much would Nolic pay for me to become a Lankie?? , bearing in mind a Yorkie is worth double the going rate, i never realised that times were that bad, Yorks annexed to Lancs.I still refuse to acknowledge a SOUTH riding, there was, and only can be three of them, bloody blow in's

I think you are working under a misapprehension Bodge.  You pay him!  Not the other way round.  He knows where the levers of power are in Barrowford.  By the way, any sighting of Nandy lately?
