Bradders, once upon a time Catty's off beat humour was the funniest thing on here..give him the benefit of the doubt, and Catty , take some of your own medicine and lighten up..we all need to try and avoid taking things personally.

Agreed Belle ...We're "talking" !....
What attracted attention today was a young man in a van who came and worked his socks off for Five Hours without a break to fix our water system .....
Here's what happened....
Having ascertained that the submersible pump was toast , he dragged it to the surface (attached to 40 meters of plastic pipe covered in red slimy muddy stuff....that's a lot of pipe and weight ).
New pump was attached to existing (cleaned) pipe together with new electical cable , and nylon retrieval rope.....
New pump control box installed at "well head"...
New Pressure vessel installed , together with upto date electical controls etc.
System checked , bled and a problem with a sticky bathroom tap resolved ....
The bill will be a little less than the £1100.00 quoted .
What hurts is that we have to pay a further £220 to this bastard government for our misfortune ......... TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY EFFIN QUID ....for what ?
....can you tell I'm cross ?

Bradders, living in the country is different, we boughta house with a dug well, 25ft. lovely water, but we were a bigger family, with children, washing machines, baths, showers etc, result in Summer we were short of water, £2000, later we had a 280ft. bore well, result plenty of water that looked like it came from an abbatoir, rust, £1800 later a filter system installed, was only partially successful, so £ 3000 later joined a local water water system, great clean water but comes through a Chlorine filter, imagine drinking swimming pool,now the EEC say we have to pay for using the water!, plus we also have to pay £250 to have our septic tank inspected to prove it's working, its been used in the home for the last 150 yrs. without problems.
Thank God i'm 75, and old enough to tell them to get stuffed, I don'nt think i'll go to gaol !

Bodge and Brad, commiserations. Brings home the point of the old saying, "You never miss the water till the well runs dry".
The courier managed to find me eventually, one small annoyance off my back! New shredder is quieter and works. One thing puzzles me. The old one lasted ten years and occasionally I lubridated the cutter by spraying a sheet of paper with WD40 and shredded it. The destructions for this one stipulate vegetable oil. Anyone know why?

Maybe some type of plastic gearing, might not like the solvents in WD40.

What caught my attention this week, the statement that the cabinet holds more men from one college in Oxford, than it does women in total! i have watched the footage from the Conservative conference and it is all men in suits ..hardly a woman in sight. Doris Johnstone (don't know what her first name is but as she is Boris's sister Doris seems right to me) seemed liek the only adult in the room when she sat with Michael Portillo, John Prescot and the chap from the politics show..she was intelligent, well argued, erudite...they were narrow minded and idiotic..Michael Portillo's reply to the challenge that they were out of touch with ordinary people said it all "Margaret Thatcher understood the common man or woman, she knew how to buy something in a shop, with a purse!"...........that says it all..we might as well have Louis the 14th running the country!

Dead right Belle and nicely put. Anyone who thinks that Maggie understood 'the common people' or did anything for them is living in a parallel universe.
Ian, good thought, I shall use cheap cooking oil on the paper. Thanks for that.
What grabbed me was that my chest is slightly congested. I'll bet it was mixing with all those people in Bradford last Friday!

Here's something from 'In Black and White', a section in the Melbourne Herald Sun daily newspaper ...... A passenger was riding on a tram on a particular route at a time when it was advertising a local gymnasium ...... The tram was labelled "The Trim Tram" and this alliteration got him thinking ...... A story starting every word with the letter T ...... Makes sense, even if you have never heard of the place names or Tiny Tips tea or Tim Tams.
Here then is his Tall Tale of Alliteration
Tall, trim, tanned, toned trades teacher Thomas Trevor Tucker, took the ten twelve trim tram, Two Thousand Twenty-Three, Thornbury to Toorak Tram Terminus, to try to talk tiny Templestowe touch typist Tina Tamara Thompson to take the two twenty-two train, Toronga to Thomastown, Tuesday. They then took Tynee Tips tea, Tim Tams, truffles, tasty treacle tarts together. Then thoughtfully, Thomas told Tina to take their tough turquoise Toyota Tarango, towing trailer, through torturous, treacherous timber tracks to Tea Tree, Tasmania, tomorrow Thursday.
It is interesting isn't it.

A bloke pulled me up on the park and asked if we could hav new pictures rather than Shed Pics. Sorry if it's annoying anyone else but it goes with the territory, explaining how lumps of cast iron grow into living engines. Please post plenty of other pics and dilute me input! XXX.

Too right Comrade!
What attracted my attention was the realisation that on Thursday Terry Gissing is picking me up and we go down to Masson to finalise the plans for the last push on getting the Jubilee Engine from Padiham ready for exhibiting to the public. I've been banging away at this project for over 25 years and my mate Robert has spent well over £150,000 out of his back pocket. Nice to see the end in sight, another loose end tied up before I shuffle off the stage.
