Fair enough all !......The good captain might have explained sooner . as in his first paragraph.
Busking is entertainment (if it's done to a high standard)....I don't ask for money. If I do get any , much of it goes to charity. I sometimes get paid by Festival Organisers and businesses....
It costs £4.10. to park for four hours in Padstow (and that's "Long Stay") and it's a 32 mile round trip.......I have yet to show much of a profit , but it's excellent practice and I enjoy the reaction I get .
Readers may also like to be reminded that in my post about Mum's sandwiches , I termed it "fun-busking".....which it is .

Then I will remind you of your initial answer to my question........and it was a straight question.
I am not interested in the content of said paper.....
A straight answer would have sufficed .

Something that DID attract my atttention today , was that the price of Queen Margot at my local Lidl went down by a few pence ........
Probably something to do with Brent Crude ....!

Funny thing is that nobody has asked me if I want a copy of the paper on insurgency that's causing this storm in a teacup. For the record I'm too busy reading and writing history in my kitchen to have any interest in it so don't bother. Post it on the site under Rare Texts and ley people decide for themselves. As for attacking Messrs Stirrup and Dannet... Breathtaking! "You need to get out a bit more and look around instead of being stuck in your kitchen reading about the past." Lifestyle advice as well eh? Breathtaking!
Brad, What's Queen Margot? All I could find was a group! (Is dogpile fixated on popular music?)
The Friends of Valley Gardens didn't have the best day for their summer fair. Better luck next year!
Thanks to Doc burning the midnight oil we now have a full copy of the Calf Hall Shed Company Minute Books up on the site. Four months transcription at 3,333 words a day. 700 A4 pages. Perhaps there is something to be said for obsessive behaviour at the kitchen table after all! Some good stuff in there, have a look at it. The genealogists will get a lot out of it. Copy it to your hard drive and that will enable you to search it.

A quite large wind turbine appeared on Bleara yesterday. It looked quite beautiful with the evening sun catching it against a dark grey sky.
How do low flying aircraft know they are there?

Thanks Brad, I thought it was a drink but was confused by Dogpile.
Michael Gove warns teachers their reputation could be damaged if they strike. A very right wing view. Their reputation might be enhanced in other quarters. A body of people acting together to protest against a perceived wrong is always impressive even if you disagree with their case.
Chinese premier hints he will help bail out Greece and help the Euro. Worrying. Does he mean they will buy up cheap assets? He is thinking about letting us export chicken and pigmeat to China. Not the biggest international incentive I have ever seen.

Low flyers are VERY CAREFUL....My friend with his little plane gets updates to his charts (I think there are rules about this) and he spends money and time on the preparations for flights.
I've always thought those little red lights on top of high stuff might be useless , but apparently not !

I was thinking more about the low flying jets that seem to skim the hill tops round here. I suppose they are higher than they look. Come to think of it, I haven't heard any for a while. Perhaps they have more important things to do than frightening me!

The person who did the post-WW2 research was a US Colonel S Marshall. On the back of this research, training was improved (you can make what you want of the use of the word 'improved' there) so that during Vietnam, 90% of combat troops fired at other people (this is the work of a chap called Grossman in the States, another former US Army officer). Marshall's work was intially criticised for being selective, but has been corroborated by other studies, and the finding here is about the psychological effect of killing another person. Most people actively resist this and so there is for some, a psychological cost in knowingly killing another person. Of course, there are some folk who 'love' killing others - I would recommend London University Professor of History Joanna Bourke's book Killing: An Intimate History, where this is discussed, in the context of warfare, at some length. A quite controversial book. Grossman is controversial too as he argues video games can serve the same de-humanising purpose as the techniques used to condition soldiers, and of course we often enter into a periodic bout of handringing over 'shoot-em-up' video games and their effect on folk.
I find this sort of stuff quite interesting in adding to the sum of human knowledge, an eye into the human condition, and food for thought.
As an aside, the notion that we have volunteer army (as opposed to a conscript army with no choice) where folk know what they are signing up to could be taken as an argument for the conditional support of our armed forces. Thus, as they know they'll chucked into the meat-grinder of a contentious war, then short of the normal human sympathy for loss, they should not automatically expect unconditional support. Just a thought.
I remember Clive Ponting who leaked information on the Belgrano job. He was aquitted. The jury knew very he was guilty of breaching the Act, but aquitted him nonetheless. That's trial by jury for you. There are public servants in possession of papers day in day out that if leaked would be in some of the public's interest. Secrets aren't just the stuff of derring do, and men in dark alleys. They are the very workings of Govt.

Wendy, modern wind turbines are made up to 300 feet high. I don't know if there is any regulation in the UK limiting their height but I think military aircraft are limited to not going below 100 feet (Thomo can tell us if that's correct) so there is plenty of danger there. I guess the aircraft operators must be warned of the danger areas but the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association seem to be concerned.

Fast Jets have Radar that is capable of "flying the plane " kind of, it can/will alter the altitude if something is in the way !!

That is a relief Frank, I will try not to worry any more! Another turbine popped up today across the road, above the old Dowshaw quarry. Our closest neighbours were talking about putting one up too, but we think they may have left it too late and missed the opportunity of getting the high feed in tarrif.
