Do you know - I've got to this ripe old age without ever making a Christmas cake from start to finish. So I thought I'd have a go this year.

The result - while not catastrophic - did leave a little to be desired, but I feel confident it's only a cosmetic problem. Lord knows there's enough whisky in the mix to get me into trouble if I try driving after eating a slice.

The main problem - and let this be a warning, dear readers - was the new-fangled silicone cake 'tin'. The mix was pretty darn heavy with cherries, sultanas etc and when it got put in the oven, the sides of the 'tin' wobbled and bent, resulting in a less than perfect circle.

I did enjoy icing it though, because I had The Best of The Doors playing full blast.

Hmm - the YouTube video shows up in the editing window but not on the main Forum. Wonder what I've done wrong?

How funny! I was only thinking this morning...is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with silicone bakeware. I still use the old fashioned tins thankfully.

Yes Mrs. Catgate does. She baked our wholemeal bread for years in a coneventional tin and then was given a pair of earthenware "tins". which have been superb. Then someone gave her a silicone one that had two loaves made in it and went straight into the dustbin.

I reckon that for a first timer  Callunna should be awarded an OBE , particularly for being brave enough to make a video of the results.

Yes the baker here binnned his silicone bread tins after one go,,bulge out..i guess you could use them as liners if the tins were slightly bigger but by themselves no!

I have some Tupperware muffin "tns" they are fantastic for Yorkshire Puddings.  Since I started using them none of the Yorkshires have stuck.....wonderful.
