I am having trouble accessing the site, sometimes I cannot get on at all (page unavailable), sometimes it goes so slow it times out, and yet at other times it can be fine. Is it my provider, Orange, or is it the site? Is anyone else finding this happening?

I'd be dangerous with a brain!!!!!

Tiz, watch out old lad or you'll trigger me off into another book! Ley lines as broadband. You know the answer before you ask but here's my slant on it.

The strictly accurate answer in terms of the hard evidence is no. Nobody has ever proved that they exist or found a practical use for them. Also accurate is the answer yes but only if you are talking about the roots of the concept. One of the things you soon realise as you look at the archaeological evidence (There is no other source for the time period we are looking at) is that our remote ancestors were just as complex as us. They had an idea that there was some over-riding force ruling their lives but hadn't the faintest idea what it was, all they saw was the hard evidence of weather, seasons, good years and bad years and I believe that the root of whatever their beliefs was was to try to influence of control events. Or at least, voice a sopplication or request. To do this they needed conduits, gateways, ISPs in our terms. We have good reason to think that the deep pits they dug, modifications of the landscape, standing stones or natural phenomena like pot-holes were all seen as gatways to what was hidden. At that time they assumed that it was underground, they had no concept of existence in the heavens as far as we can tell. So, I reckon it's quite correct to make the gateway connection between a modern ISP, a venerated hiole in the ground or even a 'line of power' although we have no evidence they ever had that concept. The vexed question is of course, was their ISP any good. Did it work? That's where you get the clash of cultures and opinions. My own view is that 'lines of power' are a modern concept triggered by the understanding of magnetism, an invisible and mysterious force. If that can exist why not 'lines of power'? Personally until someone hits me over the head with one I shall feel safe ignoring the concept.

I suspect the issues with the Ley lines thread are related to the screwy profile of the Author of the thread (see complaints in thread).  It doesn't work on my trusty Windoze VM either :

It works fine on Firefox - somewhat ironic on a Windoze hosted bulletin board.........

Had problem getting on today, rang Virgin (Indian speak) - after great deliberation he said unplug your router & modem and plug directly into your  computer - I told him that would be difficult as it is downstairs and I am upstairs.  When we got ntl and they set it up they said we could get a good signal anywhere in the house.  It has always been weak, but I have always got on.  Virgin are a waste of time - what do I do now?  Too far away for BT on the phone line.  Would love to go back to BT phone line, broadband and normal TV.

Now Now Plugs, you shouldn't wind them up like that. Quite obvious that it's a leakage from the 'lines of power' through the post and into the site. Ubuntu and Firefox are at fault, not sensitive enough to variations to pick up the Force!

Hope you made it in one piece, Pluggy.

I've been on to Doc about a problem I have, but it appears there is nowt can be done (unless Pluggy is wearing his thinking cap). I have an Ipad. I can bring up OG....log on...read anything, including viewing pics...but cannot produce a cursor when I click on the reply box. This means my keyboard will not appear (though it does when logging on etc as those boxes produce cursors when tapped). It is as if the reply box is not 'active'. So I cannot respond to topics from my Ipad.
Doc suggested making sure Java Script and cookies were on (they are).

Don't suppose anyone has any great ideas?

How about you Pluggy? You are an awfully smart fellow. (am I laying it on thick enough?)I'd appreciate any advice.

I'd put it down to an incompatibility between the browser and OGFB.  The Ipad uses Safari which is off-beat at the best of times and OGFB is just plain obscure as bulletin board sites go. (You may have noticed I'm no fan of Skyportal, the system OGFB uses, its quirky, I'd have replaced it with something more mainstream years ago).

Yep, we arrived in one piece at just bebore 1AM.  We usually stay in a static caravan, but be left it until late and the only static we could find was silly money.  Looking around for cottages be came across this bungalow in the middles of nowhere in North Cornwall.  It looked good on the web site, its fabulous in reality, makes a week in a static caravan look like slumming it.  Its better equipped than at home..........

I brought my mobile broadband with me (I got it for the business,) but it makes a good holiday internet connection.  Not ideal in a car because of the dead spots you hit on the motorway, but it works well here.

I hope you missed the jams on the M5 in Somerset Pluggy and I'm glad to hear you've found somewhere to stay in Cornwall. We rent a cottage for a week every year in Cornwall, often twice a year - sometimes a repeat visit but more often a different one. They are always very well equipped and we try to choose ones with great views. North Cornwall? Watch out, you might bump into Bradders if you go to Wadebridge!

We did OK all the way down, traffic was a bit heavy at the start, but most of the journey was evening/night so it was quiet a lot of the way.

We're about 3 miles from Bude, middle of nowhere on a very quiet lane, so quiet I haven't heard a vehicle all morning........

Fabulously equipped, all the stuff you forget, loo rolls, soap, washing up liquid, etc etc is all here, there was 4 scones, a pot of posh jam and clotted cream waiting for us too.  A caravan is definitely slumming it.

Lovely view Pluggy. When you return home PM me with your final opinion on the cottage and if it's stlll so positive (and I expect it will be) let me know the details. We like Bude and the area around it but we haven't stayed there yet. The old canal is interesting with its lock gates onto the beach and its little museum. A lovely open sandy beach with a pleasant aspect back towards the town. Holdsworthy is a pleasant market town, quite isolated and self-contained. I wouldn't mind living there but it's too isolated for us with elderly parents here and in London to visit frequently. Have a great time!

Do you have to mow the lawn while you're in residence?

The photo shows a cottage we stayed in at Zennor on the north coast of Cornwall, taken from a hill nearby on a slightly misty day. It's the one just right of centre with the two windows and a central white door, like a child's drawing. The field outside had cows, hens and guinea fowl and the sea was away to the left.

Got back late last night.  Only negative point about the acommodation, is that its on a cornish lane which by the nature of the beast is dusty/muddy and the car gets filthy driving to and from it.

Its openly advertised on the internet at :

http://applecottages.com/4-CROPA.html

The website owner acts as an agent and its actually let by the owner, who you're put in touch with via the website.  The owner has relatives who live close by who do the property management.
