Following the recent discussion about chippies in Barlick, I was wondering whether there's merit in creating a new Forum for reviews of local eating out places? And pubs? This would benefit newcomers/visitors as well as locals. I would be happy to write reviews of the local restaurants and pubs - a tedious and arduous task but someone's gotta do it The beauty of a website like OGFB is that several people could comment on the same place - one person's meat is another person's poison - so the reader would get a fair and balanced idea, unlike newspaper reviews which depend on the mood of the reviewer on just one occasion.

You got it then Katie....well done!

Three Fishes...some of  the starters look a bit pricey but then again, it's not pub grub is it! Sounds nice.  We pay similar prices when we go to The Masons Arms in Battersea. Their food is excellent but I wouldn't have thought they were locally sourced ingredients.

Treated ourselves to a meal at The Dog & Gun, Glusburn this afternoon. E had just been for a scan at Airedale so hadn't been allowed food since previous evening and was starving. Where to go at 2.45pm? No problem at this pub/restaurant - they serve food all day.

I can report that it's well worth a visit.

The menu is wide ranging and has a larger than usual veggie choice. The kids' menu isn't limited to burgers, beans and fish fingers - I noticed there was a child's portion of steak and chips on offer, for example.

The meat is sourced from local Yorkshire farmers and the meals are served up in a comfortable and cosy atmosphere.

There's Timothy Taylor's ales, plus what seemed like a decent selection of single malts.

E had steak, egg & chips followed by sticky toffee pudding, while I had mushroom stroganoff followed by raspberry pavlova. With two drinks (grapefruit & soda and a glass of red wine) and two latte coffees - the final bill came to a tad over £25.

Portions not huge, but enough.Go to Top of Page

I am looking at going to Zio's in Barrowford on Saturday night.  Has anyone been, I believe it is nice.  Any dishes you would recommend?

Never been but its very popular and as such the service can be a bit stretched from what I've heard. Nowt beats Da Giorgio's in Colne for a good Italian meal. Nolic

Barlick seems well placed now for a good meal. In The Observer annual food awards announced in the Food Monthly supplement at the w'end just gone, The Fence Gate won best place for a Sunday Lunch. Got a big write up. The Three Fishes mentioned above was runner up. Anyone been to the Fence Gate?

Should be good up there though as you have good producers on your doorstep. I work right by the well-known Borough Market here and the lamb man drags his stuff down from up the road around Kendal, the fish man from Morecambe way, and a beef man from Bowland. The pork chap isn't too far away up in Pickering.

Borough is being a bit ruined at the moment for me. It's got so popular that it's full of folk there to be seen. They don't buy anything, just look, point, pose about and get in the way. I tend to find this with a lot of farmer's markets (which admittedly Borough isn't) - others agree?. Drives me nuts.
