I just can't hang around when I get started, the beach huts are on a small canvas about 10 by 8, and took about half an hour, the mill scene probably took about three hours over a couple of days.
Got a fantastic bargain from a cheap shop in Accrington, an oiled elm table top easel, for £2.50, it has been a godsend...

Blok, what about the pic of the sunset? come on this topic was about us all painting the same pic, at roughly the same time..otherwise we may as well just put up pics we've been paining, I have done at least three others whilst doing the two i put on here..but that would not be in the spirit of the post..this is not a telling off just an encouragement to do the sunset, and you too, Sue it helps to see how other folk tackle it.

Thanks Belle, I must admit I overlooked the sunset, will have a go later on today, I get carried away with my mill scenes as it is my main interest.....

Moh, I am recovering from a kidney transplant at present, but I run a property development company which keeps me busy and the painting is a way of switching off...

Sketching the sunset, but will have to use watercolour paper, I reckon it should be ok for oil paint??

Very good too. I started my harbour scene, but am heading off on hols shortly and just know it won't be finished before I go...so don't wait for me folks...get on and paint to your heart's content and I will catch up when I can. I quite like seeing anything anyone has done. I find them all so interesting. But I do like to see everyone's version of the chosen pics too. Blockie...at this rate you are going to need FINGER TRANSPLANTS, because at the speed you work you are going to wear your present ones down to mere stumps. Keep going! I'm enjoying your labours.
get your people to phone my people and we will do lunch...MAZ |

Like that Blokky, theres something very real about your pictures, can almost feel the cool evening air, and oil on watercolour paper..was it a nightmare or quite do-able?

Belle, the watercolour paper seemed to soak the oil paint up very quickly and as a result needed to use more painting medium mixed into the paint. The beauty of the paper as opposed to the canvas board that I have been using is the cost. I have obtained a couple of stretched canvas's this morning so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

bloks, try coating the wc paper with a couple of coats of acrylic gesso before you use it to give it a seal. You can by acrylic paper which is a fraction of the cost of canvas. Nolic
