I just ordered it also! It comes up on Amazon UK. The postage was more than the book....and it also said 4-6 weeks. Let me know when your arrives!
On www.pendle.net it states the following:
Roughlee Hall
It was once common belief that the famous Pendle Witch, Alice Nutter, once lived here - this is no longer believed to be true.
Can that be true? I thought there was heaps of documentation to support Alice living there. Is it to keep modern-day Nutters from harassing the occupants of this house claiming it was stolen from the family and they want it back?
This would be an interesting investigation!

Deb, Gladys Whittaker shows a weight of solid evidence for Alice Nutter never having lived at Roughlee Old Hall. The Hall was built by the Smith family of Pendle and Briercliffe and passed to the ubiquitous Hartleys. Alice Nutter was a distant relative of Gladys along with anyone who has Whittaker ancestry from Briercliffe, Holme-in-Cliviger and Simonstone.
T.D.Whitaker, the famous antiquary, was also related to Alice - this is why he never mentioned the Pendle Witch case but wrote in detail on the later 1633 case.
Work that I am currently doing backs this up - documents I have found show that there is a definite link in land ownership between the Nutters and the Hall.
In her book Gladys illustrates the reason for the confusion as folklore has become mixed with fact. The booklet is very informative regarding the subject - in fact it was a breakthrough and a nice contrast to the tired old rubbish constantly churned out on the Pendle Witch legend.

Deb, I have already been waiting 6 wks, now its another 4-6wks, not a happy bunny. I tried sourcing it elsewhere before going to Amazon. I think they take your money, then try to find the book, I hope I am wrong on that.

I found a fabulous old book on the history of Barrowford by (er....can't remember....it's at home and I'm at the office) in an antique book shop in Bolton. It actually had lots of info about my Barrowford Nutters.
Have you tried there? Can't remember what it's called but it's between the visitor's center and the Abbey.

Yes Stanley! That's the one!
But what's the bookshop called? Tried to find in Google but no luck. I remember the store layout and the exorbitant price, I mean value of the book. But it was well worth it.

I seem to remember reading many eons ago that Alice Nutter came from Trawden - what was her maiden name?

Thanks Stanley! I checked it out just now and it's kinda funny. The book they found is at Amazon.co.uk (where Gloria & I have ordered ours) and they're saying it's $17.58US!! I think the one from Amazon was actually about £2.99 plus another 2 for shipping.
So if anyone sees this book whist picking through Used Book Stores...I'm willing to go £6 for it or so! :) Deb

Moh, the reference to Alice Nutter coming out of Trawden Forest was erroneously introduced by Harrison Ainsworth in his Lancashire Witches. She actually came from the Hapton area.
