I love painting and am a local amateur painter have got an N.V.Q. Level 4. I sell locally but not recently. I work as an Art technican, which involves allsorts really! I think more should be done in schools as painting is a good way of helping children communicate and deal with stress, adults too !

I tend to work on heavy paper and only good stuff which i order in bulk it is my main indulgence, like working with good cloth. If i was a proffesional i would have stack s of different paper as its something that i love having. I have my favouite,s. Arches, Fabriano,Etival . LangfordI can stretch paper but buy the blocks which are convenient! Some big paintings i have done i put away and bring them out again years later to finish |

In England I buy what is recommended in my Art class, in France I just buy what they sell in the supermarkets and craft shops. Painting is big in France as a hobby so the supermarkets always have a good selection but cheap paper

I use pastels a lot, they are much cheaper and you can work on all sorts of cheap paper, from kids scrap books to lining paper. A roll of good quality lining paper is usually not much more than £2 and it can be as good a quality as cartridge paper, great for doing pencil sketches. It won't hold pastel or paint well though. For Pastel you need the cheap rough stuff, some people even use sand paper to hold pastel, i haven't tried it but I wonder how it behaves when fixed? I teach classes in pastels, and am willing to travel, so if you lot in Barlick want to get a hall hired and have a day doing pastels, let me know!

I did a pastels nightclass many years ago but had to give up as I had to teach a night class myself on the same night. I like them too but prefer the look of watercolours

Nice belle, I like the house one best! I really like using pastel . I did a self portrait that i quite like which i might put on later when my printers fixed to see what you think!Lovely to see your work as i am always interested in seeing other people work and talking about art too fascinates me and always has done. Wish i had done it earlier rather than hairdressing, but its never too late I started about eight years ago but just tinker with it these days! |

Now that really does make me feel like an amateur. I love the house in the backstreet.
As for hairessing, aren't most hairdressers latent artists? I used to teach science to hairdressing students about 25 years ago and most of them were so artisitic, I am afraid I was on a loser with the science of colouring and permimg!!!!!

Sue firstly yes i think hairdressing is an art form though more of a craft ! But i loved the interaction with people and got a G.C. S. E. in Art and Science. Art is more to me and is personal. I read somewhere, maybe it was Ruskin said" A craftsman uses his hands and his head"whilst an Artist uses " his heart and his hands and his head"? |

Great Belle.
Don't let it put the rest of you off. I love looking at what people can do with a pencil or brush. You all have a talent!

Nolic, I wouldn't have posted it if I'd known it would affect you like that, please don't stop showing your Art, like flutters I enjoy looking at everybodies different approaches. We all see the world differently and Art is one of the ways you get to see it from another persons point of view. Everybody is unique and everyones art is valid.

Tinker, don't worry about my comments. It was just a way of expressing my admiration for your abilities and the work you posted. If I do anything that I want the world to see I'll post it. Mrs Nolic thinks I do flowers OK so I might have another go at that. Nolic.
