I have just spent the last 3 full days digging out a formal herb garden, laid out in a French style symmetry.( hence the bad wrist). Now I need to plant things quickly before all those weeds come back
I already have rosemary, thyme, chives, mint, lemon balm, marjoram, and lavender(multiple plants of each). Has any one any ideas about othe perenial herbs that can with stand long periods with very little attention. The soil is well drained and very fertile. I have 8 symmetrical patches in all. Two are already filled. This year I am putting potatoes in another two of them , but I need some ideas for a long term permanent herb plot. I did think I would do one patch with annuals and biennials like parsley and basil.

We use floral disinfectant to deter our own cat from going places we don't want her to go

I noticed last night that a cat had squashed one of the chive plants down and crapped in the middle. There were six slucs cleaning up. I thought I'd leave it for a while and see how well they clean up.
Repelling cats. One way is to sink a narrow necked bittle in the soil up to the neck with some neat ammonia in it. Cats hate them!

Chili powder is excellent, until it rains and then the buggers are straight back in again.
I'm going to invest in a bit of technology, a PIR controlled sonic cat deterrent. £32 on ebay. If that doesn't work I'll cover the lot with flags...

I believe cats dont likeCDs or DVDs stuck in the soil on small sticks,something to do with the reflection,if that fails any Girls alloud CD played at full volume,

I think they're strong enough. Plenty more cuttings if you or anyone else wants them.

They are in the back step in the morning sun and afternoon shade. They have already grown 5 centimetres

Let's hope they don't know about noise-cancellation technology! Has it had any effect on teenagers?
