As you all know, my expertise in genealogy and access to sources doesn't begin to compare with some of you. Please can I impose on you to do some furtling for me for hard evidence about GEORGE PROCTOR.

What I know: He was senior partner in Proctor and Proctor of 3 Grimshaw Street Burnley for many years, probably to his death. As such he acted as secretary to many room and power companies, the Calf Hall Shed Company being one of them. He was appointed scretary of CHSC in March 1893, became the biggest shareholder in the company and died on July 6th 1922.

Equally important to me is where he lived from 1888 onwards as I suspect that, though not mentioned by name, he was advising the CHSC before he became secretary. I have reason to believe that after the death of Chistopher George Bracewell he moved into Bank Hall/House (Both names are used in the census) and later lived at Thornton in Craven, possibly in one of the big houses on the Drag. He had many interests besides CHSC in the area, The Big MIll Co at Earby and the Earby Gas and Light Company were but two.

Any information at all will be helpful. Thank you. S XXX

I'm here Glo! Many thanks for taking the trouble. Any clue as to where Throstle Nest was/is?  It's becoming apparent that my Bank House or Thornton connection if they exist must be later. No lifebelt in the shape of a son called George either! Not too interested in his antecedents, what concerns me at the moment is George himself. Anything further gratefully accepted. XXXX

Comrade, have you tried following the solicitors link. Might be worth a call to the Law Society in Burnley http://juniorlawyers.lawsociety.org.uk/node/530

Stanley, there was a farmer called George Proctor living here at Lower Burnt Hill. His name has cropped up quite a few times on the site, as he had at least 15 children and many, many Proctors are are descended from him!
No connection to your George that I know of, but could that be the Thornton in Craven link you are thinking of?

Throstle Nest is in Thornton in Craven then. Have a look at this website, shows it's location nicely.

Stanley, I have tried looking for George Proctor and there are quite a few born 1901-1911 Yorkshire, after that I would have thought Mrs Proctor would have been to old to bear children.
Nothing comes up with Walmesley as mother's maiden name.

Wendy is right, it's Thornton and that answers a large part of my query, it's the Thornton connection in 1901 for sure and of course he could have been there at any time after 1891. What I was after was evidence that George was living locally at the end of the 19th century. Now all I have to do is track down the Bank House reference. On March 15th 1893 he is noted in the minutes as 'George Proctor of Bank House', no town given but that in itself points to it being local. In July 1891 CHSC were negotiating to install gas at Bank Hall [Bank House] but they never owned it. On the evidence I have so far it looks as though George moved to Bank House shortly after 1891 but ten years later was living in Thornton in Craven. I think I may be getting there! Thanks for the help.
