Hi to Everyone,
I e-mailed Stanley and he was kind enough to point me in this direction. I am looking for any information on the Wilkinson family. This all started when a cousin gave my sister a card recording the burial of a Rycroft Wilkinson of Blera Side in August 1867. This card was in the possession of my grandmother who died in 1949. ( Grandfather died in 1947 ).
Well, to cut a long story short ( I know history is a long story !!! ) I have obtained the marriage certificate of a Joseph Wilkinson of Broach House who married Caroline Harrison of Noyna Hall on the 24th december 1837. On the marriage certificate it names Rycroft Wilkinson as Joseph's father, and a Joseph Harrison as Caroline's father. Under occupation Joseph and Caroline are Weavers (Rycroft was a Weaver and Joseph Harrison a Rougher ?). Following this through in 1839 Joseph and Caroline had a son named Rycroft, born 6th July 1839 at this time they are living in Moss Houses ??. It is this Rycroft who I believe is on the memorial card., and who I believe is my Great Grandfather.
I have requested my grandfather's birth certificate from the CRO to see if Rycroft is named as his father. Any information on Broach Houses , Noyna or Moss Houses would be very much appreciated. I thank you for reading this, great site for information.
Yours sincerely
Frank Wilkinson
ps Currently we live in Aberdeen so we can't come down to Foulridge/Colne until March time, to investigate further.

Good evening.
I remember when Friday Night was a visit to the Pub, not anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
I was going to stop when I had traced the line to G G Grandfather, but here we go. I can't stop the nagging feeling over what happened to Caroline and Joseph. In 1841 they are living in Moss Houses with Rycroft aged 1 In 1851 I am pretty sure I have found Rycroft aged 11 Farm Servant. In the census search they have him named as Wright Wilkinson, but looking at the actual entry you can make out it's Rycroft. Again he is living at 87 Moss House, but no Joseph and Caroline!!!!!.
I have searched the deaths and I have found a Caroline Wilkinson in Oct Nov Dec 1841 at ( Ecclesfield to 1850 ) I don't know what that means ??? but was Ecclesfield near to Foulridge ??. The answer I think I am looking for is, is it possible to check some way without purchasing the death certificate?? I am not tight, but the Mormons, or someone from the ONS will be touring round the towns in RR cars soon !!!!!.
If Caroline did die I think I have found Joseph remarried to a Naomi. They also have Children, Jane and Sarah two family names, and both Joseh & Naomi seem a little late in life having young children. Well all for now.
If copies of all the BMD certificates I have collected will be of any use to anyone doing local history I will gladly copy and forward them on.

Ecclesfield is not near Foulridge - certificates are only real proof and stop you going down the wrong family - but as you say Frank very expensive - but the anticipation when the big white envelope drops through the letter box is very exciting.

In 1851 Joseph and Naomi have three children, wouldn't have thought they were too old at that age? Cannot really see it being him. There would be one way to find out, that would be to get Joseph and Naomi's marriage cert to see of he was a widower.
Name Age
Ellen Wilkinson 8 Mo
John Wilkinson 5
Joseph Wilkinson 31
Mary Jane Wilkinson 3
Naomi Wilkinson 26

Waiting for the next mail drop!!!!!!!. Another £28 off to the ONS. Stanley said this was like watching lichen grow, he's right. You can't hurry the ONS and at £7 a go you have to make sure it's as right as possible.

I have had the odd wrong one, but not to worry. They are coming a lot faster than they used to, the last one I got took only five days, I can remember them being three weeks a couple of years ago.

Hi All,
Quick question , Trying to tie up some loose ends in the 1871 census I have the twins Caroline and Mary Wilkinson living as step daughters to Richard Crabtree aged 32. I know in 1870 Elizabeth Wilkinson (Riddihough) married Richard Crabtree. So on the census returns it's Elizabeth, Richard, the twins aged 7, and a Margret Sayler aged 13. For Margret the entry says Natural Daughter ???. I have looked up Margret, it says on the census born Colne, but the only one I can find is born Guisbro 1858. Would Guisbro be under Colne for BMD???? Thanks
