I love painting and am a local amateur painter have got an N.V.Q. Level 4. I sell locally but not recently. I work as an Art technican, which involves allsorts really! I think more should be done in schools as painting is a good way of helping children communicate and deal with stress, adults too !

I don't have any stress....... But the best cure for any stress or worry is action, works every time.......

I've just taken up watercolour painting this last year. I have never doen it before. At school it was wisely decided that my talnets lay in the Sciences than the Arts, in fact Art and Home Economics and History were dropped for Latin, Physics and Chemistry. All the above'dropped subjects' now take up a considerable amount of my retirement time. I am making up for lost time. I don't think my Art work is yet up to publishing on the site but I am trying ( some may say i am VERY TRYING!!!!!!)

I think it is an enjoyable hobby and do like copying photograph,s everyone one has to make a start Sue! so just enjoy playing around with things. I bought a n old frame off a n antique market in Dorset and the photo inside it was beautiful! i copie d it and managed to get a likeness, my sister has it in her hall and everyone admires it . I felt very emotional when painting it as it is of a first world war soldier taken in Hyde Park. He must have been very young as he looks like a girl not a whisker in sight! My son was the same age when i painted it and my Grandmother lost a brother at nineteenin that war. There is a name on the back of the photo, will try and trace it someday to see if he survived! |

Try www.cwgc.org - if he died it will tell you where he is buried, then you can find the cemetary on www.findagrave.com and see a picture of his grave.

Just hope it is an un common last name - if it was taken in Hyde Park he is probably a Londoner which may narrow it down

Come on Su and Flutters lets see some examples of your work - don't just leave it to the lads.
The art programme Su refers to is on satellite channel 181 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4.00pm. Its sponsored by the SAA http://www.saa.co.uk/
Discovery Real Time on channel 250 show some programmes by Charles Evans where he does a couple of paintings on location each episode. I've seen him demonstrating at Ilkley art show and he's very good. His web site has a lot of demonstations which you can follow quite easily http://www.charlesevansart.com/
Same channel also show the Joy of Painting series by Bob Ross, a soft spoken American who uses decorators brushes on big canvasses to do a very unique style of landscape painting. Well worth watching.
I think Tom has inspired me to get the paints out again and have a go. Claim to have been too busy recently but I think I've just been lazy. Nolic
