I have been researching my name recently, and came across a family where the mother and daughter both died in the same year aged 51, and 19 respectively. Hard to imagine that happening now. Checked the address from 1871 census (Burnley) and looked to see if it still existed.  Five  minutes later I had seen a map, ridden up and down the street on Streetview,  and than looked to see what houses in the street sold for.  Now the spooky bit - at the top of the list of sales for the street was the actuall house I had been looking for!  Sold in March this year.  Amazing.

I find amazing coincidences in my family tree search all the time, for instance when I got a copy of my maternal gt grandmother's birth cert. the registrar was a memeber of my paternal gt grandfather's family. No connections between the two familes at all until 3 generations later.

Here's something else quite spooky - Whenever I stand close to my TV, it changes channel to Ch 3  then Ch33 then Ch333!   Happened first on the small TV in the bedroom, and I changed batteries in he remote, then disconnected it and gave up, thinking  there was a fault either in the TV or the remote.  Now it has happened again on a totally different TV in the lounge.  It's on Freeview, and I have retuned the channels, but no joy.   The only thing in common is that both Tv's are the same make  (Technika/Tesco)

Is it coincidence that ITV started a new Channel ITV1+1 yesterday on Ch 33?
Any ideas  Panbiker or Pluggy?

Have you had a remote control implanted so that you don't need to get up from the sofa?

Tripps, could it be down to static electricity coming from you - you then becoming a kind of human remote control. I have heard of people being able to turn street lights on and off by just walking past them or staring at them. My tv is also a Technika from Tesco's too. Just when I am thinking what channel am I on, the channel number comes on inside a blue square at the top right hand corner. There are a lot of things going on that we don't know about, things that are far beyond our knowledge / understanding. Like it says in the Bible, or somewhere, "beyond all understanding". I've seen and heard ghosts too. But thats another story!

I haven't quite decided whether to earth myself,  get disinfected, or exorcised!

Which one is you Gus?  Can I suggest you have gone back as far as you need to into your family tree!  Smile

Interesting phenomena Dave. I had 20 years as a service engineer in the TV trade and have never come across this before. Early touch sensitive channel changing circuitry used to be so sensitive that it would change channel if you had a static charge and stood in close proximity. There was also a problem with folk who had nylon carpets, they used to accumulate large charges of static which used to discharge through the early generation CMOS technology Integrated circuits that the touch tuning was based on. Invariably this would lead to the IC failing and having to be replaced.

Some early remote control were audio tone based and these also could be triggered by extraneous sources and would jump channels on a whim.

The majority of current generation remote controls are based on pulsed Infra Red technology. Each button that you press has a different train of pulses which determines the separate functions. You can get some interaction between different remotes but each manufacturer registers the codes that they use which eliminates the majority of crosstalk problems. Some devices use RF based remote controls although I would not think that this would apply to the Technika brand which if you have a quick google around, does not have a very good reputation for reliabilty!

Do you have any Buetooth technology about your person, mobile phone or Startrek type bluetooth earpiece? Only reason I ask this is that bluetooth uses wideband RF technology which is a very dirty signal hence it is limited to short range devices. It is conceivable that interference from such a device could have a detrimental effect on adjacent circuitry although it should not under normal circumstances.

Other than that, have you tried searching for similar faults on review forums or tehnical sites? Seem too much of a coincidence that it has happened on two receivers from the same manufacturer. They will almost certainly share some design features.

Charlie Sutton, my old flue chap at Bancroft, had cancer of the rectum and they implanted a small radio active source in his lower rectum to halt its progress. Colour TV had just come in and when he stood next to the set in the local pub snow appeared on the screen!  He got quite a reputation in some quarters of Brierfield! He had a chipping hammer which he said was made from a piece of a metorite. It was certainly no metal I have ever seen before and never lost its sharp edge. An interesting bloke!

Thanks for your thoughts Pans but  I think I've solved the puzzle. I have found hat the remote control of the small bedroom TV had the number three biutton jammed in, and was sending 3's continually. I had it in my hand when trying to change channels - hence  3, 33, 333 etc.  Did the same to large TV of course since they are the same brand.
Sorry Sunray nothing supernatural at play here.

Doh! Always the simple ones that get you! why did'nt I think of that? Must be losing my touch. Checking the basics was drilled into me by my first boss. Always check the basics, look for the obvious then get the service manual and test meter out.

Tripps, never mind, just sounded a good story. I could tell you about things that have happened to me over many years, spooky things too. But that might take a few pages up on the site. There is often a good reason for things that happen, but always one or two strange happenings that are far beyond us that cannot be explained.
