Hi..........I found this forum on google while trying to research the origins of my Doug Moore built canal boat named Forget Me Not. The boat is 34' long and 9' wide ,built in a dutch barge style of all steel construction. The hull is signed Doug Moore 12 on one side and Doug Moore 042 on the other. She was built in 1991.............perhaps THOMO would remember her.....
Would appreciate any info...........was she built as a river boat as i have been told?

Ref Joe Bridge...when I first met him we were down in Skipton, this is probably in the mid 80s. He insisted in making some new fenders for our boat. INSISTED I SAY!! He also told me every time I met about his record sail from Liverpool to Leeds, he told everybody...Bless him.
His son, Joe jnr actually owns a boat named Elvira, he used to moor at the Boatclub moorings in Salterforth but now moors at Huncoat, nearer his home.
The half size L and L short boat Anna, is owned by Alan Holden of Accrington way, he worked on the 'boats as a lad. I think with Joe Bridges at one point. His boat was built down at Worsley in Roger Lorenz's yard and his wonderful sounding engine is a 1947 Armstrong Siddley AS1. A single cylinder,10hp air cooled gem of an engine. I should know the engine, I sold it to him!
Regards, Andy.

Thanks for that Travis, must have got me wires crossed over Joe and Alan. We used to buy fenders off Old Joe down at LPM.

Funnily enough, Joe jnr is brilliant at making fenders. We've got a couple on the boat.

Great that you are 'going for a boat' if all goes well with the sale of your home Cally.
We are on the lookout for our Campervan now that we have sold and have moved (downsized). Sometimes, you just have to run with these dreams! Are you still planning to live on one full time? Big decision....Brave ladies!

Yes Maz - life is not a dress rehearsal as they say. If you've got a dream - make it a reality if you can.The house has now sold but it'll be about 6 weeks while it trundles through the solicitors, surveyors etc. We're going to take another look at the chosen boat this weekend - I hope to drag Travis and Thomo along too - the more knowledgeable brains the better! I love campervans. Once we're settled on the boat we might consider getting one. Used to have VW campers in the past - the cute ones. On the subject of Forget Me Not - I haven't forgotten (sorry) that there could be a cracking song lurking in there somewhere. Any further info/details would be appreciated. |

Camper VAN, BK. I don't think they do camperpantechnicons... !BTW, the max height of the boat's saloon is 6' 9" so as long as you don't visit us when you're wearing your stilettoes you should be OK. |
