Following the recent discussion about chippies in Barlick, I was wondering whether there's merit in creating a new Forum for reviews of local eating out places? And pubs? This would benefit newcomers/visitors as well as locals. I would be happy to write reviews of the local restaurants and pubs - a tedious and arduous task but someone's gotta do it The beauty of a website like OGFB is that several people could comment on the same place - one person's meat is another person's poison - so the reader would get a fair and balanced idea, unlike newspaper reviews which depend on the mood of the reviewer on just one occasion.

Last Saturday was a first: t'Syke actually put butties up - FREE! For everyone in the pub! (And it was packed, too).

Nolic - why not prise yourself away from the back of beyond and venture forth to t'Syke next month for the music night? Go on, it'll do you good! You're only young once. And get Nandy Gigglepants along too - he hasn't been for a while. (I wonder if I've upset him talking about his dust covered wallet?) I promise I'll be on my best behaviour.

Like I said in another post, we got a celeb in last week - John Howarth, Oldham Tinkers.Go to Top of Page

We still haven't checked it out although now summer's here we really should since it's fine enough to sit outsude with the dog.

I am spending the day at Colne library tomorrow. Will be travelling alone so I'm not looking for a pub type lunch but can anyone suggest somewhere in Colne where I might get a decent buttie or pie or something light for lunch please?

Whitesides Bakers on Dockray St do nice pies and butties. If you park on the car park behind the library and face the library,  Dockray Street is just on your left. Can't miss Whitesides. Nolic

Got to agree with you there, we get butties from Whitesides on at Saturday morning if we are at work and they are always 'spot on'

Will give it a try then. Thanks

Am I likely to be passing any of you in the streets of Colne tomorrow?

Oh well. I'm sure I'll have a good time anyway.

Might even venture over the boarder and do a bit of shopping.

Make sure you carry your passport with you the boarder guards can be a bit rough with strangers

I managed to get through before without a problem Ringo. Sneaked in and out unannounced! Managed to make my acquaintance with Jack and Stanley too.

My trip has been abandonned. I made it onto the M6, got past J17 and then sat in stationary traffic...and sat...and sat. When we did eventually move, it was only to pass J18. Once I reached J19 I decided it would be best to turn back as the driving conditions were quite horrible with heavy rain and lots of spray.
