If I was to make the claim that:
‘I were born at 13 Knock-em-down Street, where they pick em up, before they fall’
whence would I hail?
Serious. Whenever I'm a bit...er...full, at social gatherings, and someone asks where I come from, I tell em '13 Knock-am-down...etc'...in a sort of George Formby voice. I've no idea why. Can't someone help me...it's driving me to drink (more)...

Could it be Alcoholics Anonymous?

Well, if it was, it is no longer anonymous. But I think not. I suspect that it was a North of England comedian's catch phrase or favourite line or part of a song or rhyme or…something like that. I think it dates from the 1930s. Whatever it is, it seems to have a strong Lancashire or Yorkshire flavour, like Freddie Truman’s claim that ‘It’s bums that count here, not hats’.

Just a guess, but sounds very like George Formby Senior, the music hall comedian and father of George Junior, who died of TB about 1917. "Coughin' Better" was his most famous catch phrase.

Came across this page via the Google search hits.
Knock em Down Street was the local name for Brunswick Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia when it was renowned for it's ladies of the night and the rougher side of town in the 19C. Probably very descriptive at the time.
