Andrew Gilligan has surfaced again, this time with evidence that Alistair Campbell did sex up the dossier, and also put huge pressure on those people who wrote it

well done on him for trawling through all that diatribe of emails

What surprised me was the publication of the name of the suspect in the Stepping Hill case. That meant that her facebook page could be accessed and no doubt resulted in the picture splashed all over the TV news last night. What happens if the suspicions are groundless? Put the tothpaste back in the tube? Too many 'press conferences' held by police to 'reassure the public'? Better if they kept stum until they were sure of their ground. I think of the couple whose baby died in Barlick as well.

I saw Jack Batley in Butts this morning. He said that his dog had been out running and when he got home he noticed that its heart was very irregular and it was short of breath. He went straight down to the vet's and they found its heart had packed up completely. In a human it would have required a heart transplant. Understandably he's very upset about it. I told him that the cockerel story is in next week's BET and it cheered him up a bit. Mind you, it's shutting the stable door, the cockerels are no longer a problem. (I reckon he should get some Guinea Fowl, have you ever heard the noise they make?)

Yes, but peacocks would be even more effective. We stayed in a rented cottage on a farm near Dartmouth some years ago and nobody told us there were peacocks about. They crept up behind us and gave us an awful fright the first time!

I hadn't thought about peacocks, they would do!

Have a look at this LINK for the earthwork being created at Cramlington from spoil produced by nearby open-cast mining. I heard a piece on R4 about it this morning and the locals have christened her 'Slag Alice'. I like it!

Death toll in Norway reaches 93 and they are still searching for bodies in the water round the island. Terrible. The Norwegian police say the man was an extreme right wing fundamentalist, against immigration and a Freemason as well. All traits which make me uncomfortable. In this case, the combination has been tragic.

He says he will comptely explain himself in court on Monday. Really.

In Latvia they have had a referendum whether to change the government and it has won the case. The Latvians were worried about the power of the businessmen who have taken over. An interesting concept, I wonder if it will work?

Have a look at this LINK. I keep hearing a trail for this Giles Brandreth programme on the 'Shipwrecked Bears' on R4 and it sounds intriguing.

Remember Elizabeth Filkin? She was appointed to the Parliamentary Standards Committee but soon ousted because she was too honest and outspoken. Remember Keith Vaz? Have a look at this LINK, she's being brought back in to do some digging. Wonderful news, she doesn't take any prisoners and is short on diplomatic skills, just what we need!  Let's hope she gets better treatment this time round.

My attention was grabbed by a Norwegian on the radio pointing out that the scale of the tragedy in Norway is greater than what we have seen elsewhere, even the US 9/11 event, if you calculate it on the proportion of the population killed. (Norway has a population of about 5 million, which is less than a tenth that of the UK [60 million] and about a 70th of the USA [350 million]; also the Norwegians were mostly very young.

On a lighter note, 'Shipwrecked Bears'....I think the teddy bears were abducted by aliens who thought they were the predominant lifeform on this planet and they are now being examined in anatomical and physiological detail and interrogated to evaluate their intelligence. Attempts to translate teddy bear language into alien language is just starting to show some success and the first words seem to say something like "If you go down in the woods today...." but the significance has yet to be determined by the somewhat puzzled aliens.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the death of Amy Winehouse yesterday - unless it's on another thread. Perhaps, at 27, she was too young to be of interest to many of the people on OG?

Whatever you thought of her, there's no doubt she had a rare talent. Similar situation to many other music stars such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

I agree Calluna. Amy, although somewhat notorious as a person, was undoubtedly an exeptional talent. I loved all her music and am saddened by her untimely death.

A TODDLER has been found dead at a house in Barnoldswick yesterday morning. An investigation is now underway to try to establish how the two-and-a-half year-old little boy died.

Police were called by the ambulance service at about 9-30 a.m. yesterday after paramedics were called to St Mary’s Avenue.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained” and two people have been arrested in connection with the death.

A man and woman, both aged 24 and from Barnoldswick, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and child cruelty.

A post mortem examination will now be carried out to try to establish the exact cause of death.

What is wrong with these people?

Parents released after toddler death in Barnoldswick

Police investigating the death of a two-year-old boy in Lancashire have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The child died on Sunday at a house in Barnoldswick, and his parents were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and child cruelty.

A post-mortem revealed the boy had died of asphyxiation. Police have concluded the death was a "tragic accident".

His parents, both 24, have been released without charge.

Again, it would appear, we should not believe all we read in the papers...

Oh dear. Perhaps we need to more careful of the comments we make before the facts are known.

Please don't forget this unfortunate couple, who I am sure adored and cared for their children, were exhonerated.
