Burial in Burnley on April 21st 1913 of a - Tempest Waterworth aged 66 years.

The only birth recorded is in 1846 - closest name to the above being - Tempell Waterworth in Barnoldswick.

Does anyone have this man in their family tree?

Thanks!

Hi Mimi
I've had a look on Ancestry, and looking at the birth, which was registered in Skipton, it is definately written as Tempest, though someone has transcribed it as Tempell. The 1851 census shows him as being born and living in Kelbrook. The family must have moved to Burnley at a later date and following him through the census records, either he forgot where he was born, or the enumerators got careless as his birthplace is given as Burnley, Yorkshire!

Probably the births and deaths also, but haven't looked at those. Just to show it is not unusual.

Thank you.

There have been a few times when I would like to have taken the enumerator 'to task' over botched entries.  The biggest one was my great grandmother as a small girl - who I couldn't find for quite a while.

I found Tempest living in Burnley in 1881 with his widowed father.
He ended up being buried in the same plot as the first wife of a family member - Annie the wife of Middleton Waterworth.  Am yet to find Tempest's place in the family.

Wendy, can you recall in the 1851 if Tempest's parents were John and Jane - and perhaps he may have had a brother Alfred?

Thanks Gloria.

I think I may have the connection - although still uneasy about some of the dates, I'll have to double check  - never straight forward is it?

The owner of the burial plot is an Alfred Waterworth - whose son is Middleton Waterworth.

Therefore, Tempest is Middleton's uncle and Alfred's brother.

When I have sorted the information out properly I will post it - as there are some Barnoldswick connections.

Have a great day!

Don't know if it's relevant but Anthony Waterworth was one of the crew members on board the hospital ship SS Rohilla which sank in November 1914 in Whitby Bay.
