Most stews are better the day after, flavours melting into each other. I leave them on the hob for that reason, much better than the fridge and I haven't died yet!

Fancied a chicken butty last night so got a ready roated chicken from Stewart's. I shall have another butty today but the chicken will go for stock as a basis for a veggie soup. Hope Chaudrie's have broth bits!

Veggie stew made with carrots, parsnips and turnip all on last day orange ticket at Co-op. I tried a new trick for me, put two full garlic roots in the PC with the chicken carcass, just cut them across the middle and discarded all the fiddly bits with the bones. The cloves just popped out when squeezed, none of thet fiddle peeling them.

Had roast beef last night with all the usual trimmings plus roasted beetroot.  Apple crumble and custard to follow, grandson, his wife and baby came so not much left.  He is about 6' 3" and as thin as a lath but can eat like a horse - 6 potatoes, 6 roasties and 6 yorkies all disappeared along with evrything else.

Salad. (yup...beginning to look like a Salad!)
Step-son coming for dinner tomorrow night. I had no idea what I was planning to cook, but needed to go to the greengrocer. Inspiration hit as I walked about and I have bought makings for Fried Rice. Will do Chicken Shaslicks (skewer thingies) to accompany.., and will marinate them in a Chinese/ Curry Sauce prior to grilling.

Sounds good.  Out to eat tonight, possibly with granddaughter and her hubby.  Not decided yet whether Italian or Indian.

Have got the Shaslicks assembled and marinating. Have a heavy, ribbed, cast iron griddle that I shall cook those on instead of grilling as I don't want to risk them going too 'dry'.
Rice/Veg ready for the Wok.
Table set.
(tossing up...bread rolls or pappodums? Can't decide.)
White wine in fridge, Red wine in cupboard....but a little too early for "cook's nips"!

Maz, Keith Floyd reconed you couldn't cook well without ingetsing alcohol! But look where that got him.

Two Tamworth chops a full root of garlic, a £1 stew pack from the Co-op and half a bag of frozen peas. Usual seasonings etc with Bovril and Worcestershire Sauce. Not a bad veggie soup! Remarkable how little fat there is in the gravy from the chops. Just enough to improve the texture of the soup. No need to take any off. Cheap grub!

Change of plan last night, granddaughter could not make it so we went to the Sparrow Hawk instead. Have not been for about 2 years after a disastrous meal. However we were pleasantly surprised - new manager, new staff, good food and definitely brighter and cleaner.
