...... after sunset the brightest thing in the sky (apart from the Moon) (and those other lights  ) is Jupiter. Currently the closest it will get to Earth this year.
Cloud permitting of course but it will be there for a while yet.

Tony, when should we expect meteor showers? Perhaps you can flag them up in advance for us? I can remember driving home in the dark along the M40 from London one night in the 1980s (when there was very little traffic) and seeing lots of meteor showers across the sky. Wonderful!
My wife and I were lucky a couple of years ago to witness a fireball falling at dusk. We happened to be birdwatching and looking in exactly the right direction. We reported it to the Society for Popular Astonomy people.

It will be quite low in the sky towards the South and will gradually track Westwards as the night goes on. It will be VERY bright so with a clear sky you won't miss it.
I'll keep an eye out for when metoer showers are due and will post a reminder. I've never managed to see a mteoer shower yet  i've seen one or two individuals but never a shower.

I think this might be an appropriate place to point out that, contrary to what some OGFB enthusiasts might now think, I have no relationship to Mrs Trellis whatsoever. Early in my OGFB days I referred to my wife as Mrs Tizer, then shortened it to Mrs T. Now that I have delved more deeply into the Lights in the East thread I note that there is another Mrs T - Mrs Trellis. To avoid confusion - and to save me getting embroiled in something beyond my ken - I thought I should state my position before we get to November and Nolic unlocks the thread again.

Gloria and I saw it last night outside the Roggerham Gate! At first I thought it was the landing lights on her broomstick but then when I saw she was standing nearby, I realised it had to be the light in the east!
