I have come across a large group of photographs from the 50s most set in Barnoldswick All local people I think.
Does anybody know anything about this club.
I shall try to post some on the picture board

Lee, have a look in Stanley's View for the articles on Eddie. 'When the Vikings invaded Barlick'; 'A surprise phone call'; 'Update on Eddie's bacon butty'. Eddie was a founder member of the motor club and used to live in my house here in East Hill Street.

seren,

I am John Humphreys and yes I did occasionally come to your Dads at East Hill Street
with the likes of Jim Broadhead and Peter Watson. You were probably one of the small girls I remember being there. This was in the 1953 to 1958 era.

Here are the pics. Kate will give you the captions. Interesting to me to see the setts in East Hill Street. What year was that?

thanks Stanley for putting the pictures on,the one of the motor bike is about 1955,and the one of the presentation night is at the Black Bull at Rimmington,my dad Eddie Spencer is just behind the lady in what looks like a grey dress on the right of the picture, next door but to his right is Ken Ashley and slightly forward of him is a rather young Jim Broadhead, check shirt striped tie,im not sure who designed the badge, but my dad always said it had something to do with Pendle Witches.

This is all very interesting, I was talking with "Blacky Holden" last week and most of these names cropped up. Peter Watson, is in Canada I believe, he and his Mother used to live with my Godparents, Alice and Clem Armstrong on Rainhall Rd. Humph, I remember you. Jim Broadhead I knew well as the Fosters was my local, I went to France with him for three weeks when he bought a house there. The last I heard of Eddie Spencer was that he had a garage in Holyhead where my Son lives, totally without fear was Eddie on a bike, I have ridden with him. I belonged to the next generation of "bike" enthusiasts, but I knew the others as along with my old pal Brian Williams we used to marshal sections on the local trials. These were good days when good men and good bikes went together, Barton Leah was another of my era, he had a Greaves and I had a Road Rocket, we swapped for an afternoon, I nearly lost it on the first bend and he was nearly left behind by the rocket. Happy days. Sadly of course, the Motor Club, like the Model Aero Club are long gone, never to be replaced, but lets face it, they cannot take off you what you have had. Other names that spring to mind are Brian Moon and Harry "Hotbreath" Holdsworth. Good night all, Thomo.

Lovely to see old Barlick photos, and characters. Thomo just reminded me of quite a few, Blackie Holden Barton  Leah, Brian Moon Harry Hotbreath, etc. and a young dashing Jim Broadhead in the photo, great stuff, great memories.

Seren,
Thanks for the photos, Took me back a few years! Whilst I no longer live in Barlick I'm not far away in Kelbrook. I well remember the Matchless but what about the Manx and chair? Those were the days.
One particular memory was arriving at Brough to watch Eddie and "Willie Watson".  We were with Albert Wild in one of the Rollers and were waved srtaight into the paddock without paying and with a salute! Trouble is you could go on for days with reminiscences.
