Regarding the mosques - if you designate a room in your house as a prayer room you apparently pay no council tax!

Re. the slaughter of animals - when I workat at Earby Council Offices the health inspector's assitant used to bring the gun used to slaughter the animals into his office and sit there cleaning all the brains etc. off it.

Did the slaughter house charge for the "offal" that they lost through this?

Every silver lining has a cloud.

Report from the White House that the terrorist threat to the US is higher now than at any time since 9/11. When in trouble invoke fear of the outsider! If you want examples just trigger me off!

God help the protesters in Egypt.  Media here were reporting  that Mubarek was going to make a speech, and that everyone was celebrating because he was about to announce his departure...fast forward....he announced nothing new, he will stay til September.  It will not be a place to be on Friday.  One of our fearless leaders should be stepping up to freeze his world  wide assets ($70 billion).

"Stanley Obama in Trouble what do you Mean ??"

It's getting to be a bad habit Frank. I never said that. Please stop putting words into my mouth. You don't know anything about Martha so how can you drag her into Frankworld?

You evidently need examples from history. The First Crusade was  a reaction triggered by the fear of Muslim takeover of the Western Catholic Church. Enormous mistake. Coalition government of 1918 used fear of revolution to drive through disastrous economic policy. Fear of Russian expansion drove late 19th century and inter-war policy towards Russia. Bogey man of Russia used again after WW2 to justify defence spending to keep the US economy going. Remember Korea and Vietnam? Fear of terrorism used by US and UK governments to obscure the lack of progressive and ethical policies in the White House and Downing Street.

We live in a world where fear is used as a manipulative tool in anything from advertising to the current economic crisis. Go back to FDR, he had it right, all we have to fear is fear itself. Time we learned that lesson again. The bottom line is that whenever some difficulty rears its head, like the parlous state of the global economy at the moment, the fear card is played yet again. The next thing youwill see is the use of covert trade sanctions to reduce imports and promote exports. China, US and UK are all quietly manipulating exchange rates to this end.

As for the Republicans, or more accurately the far right neo-conservatives, Tea Party etc. I think we have every reason to be worried about them. How do you think we got into the mess in Iraq and Afghanistan we are in now?

Any evidence to the contrary Frank?

There is fear at the back of both sides in egypt, Mobarrack hints at Hammas take over, as they apparanlty were behind demonstrations to bring in democracy in gaza, and the crowd outside are whipped up into a frenzy by those whispering that Mobarrack in power means they will never be free..............only time will tell who was right.

Pans - just looked at their site.   Surprised to see that an IT technician is rated at £12- £14.7 and requires a foundation degree, whereas a bilingual nursery school teacher's assistant requiring only NVQ-3 is scaled at £19 k -  £22 k .  You have my full sympathy.

Yes Dave although this requirement for the role is the exception rather than the rule. Bit over the top though for primary school ICT. My son also works in ICT for a company that supports Primary Schools he looks after around 10 individual schools as do each of the technicians that work for the company. He does not have or nescesarily need a degree to do the job. He does have a passion for the work and a number of years experience with relevant work and course based training since leaving college with his A levels. Did you also notice that it was only a temporary position to cover for the absence of the postholder.

I do take your point also about the disparity between the LSA and IT Technician. Having worked in the sector, I know which role will have the most hassle and require the most effort. I am afraid that I am bucking against perceived job value with the added challenge of my age. Unfortunately, experience and wearing the hat does not seem to count for very much in some quarters.

Frank, in the US constitutional system Obama isn't responsible for what the government does, all he can do is try to moderate them or bend them to his poilicies. So, once again you are wrong in assuming he is in power. Congress has the power and that's Republican controlled. I think the actual announcement originated in the CIA and the Dep for Homeland Security.

Difficult to tell what is happening in Egypt as yet. Mubarak has effectively abdicated and Army is in control or so it seems. The man who is titular head now is 78 and a Mubarak man. Time will tell what is actually happening there and what effect it will have on similar states in ME.

Belle, Hamas are the elected government in Gaza and not necessarilly the bogey men they have been held to be by Israel.

Interesting times!

Now you are taking the wee wee!!!
Who fires Rockets into Israel and who bumped off the elected leader of Lebanon ??
The Americans ??
Plus the fact Hamas have never held elections since being elected
I wonder why, I know because they are wedded to the Electoral Process

Stanley don't you have it the wrong way arounhd, Obama tries to guide the house and senate, but HE does have the right (power) of presidential veto.

What is an election in the MR?  The only democratically elected government is in Israel...and they may be the "bogey men" since thay continue to ignore UN resolutions .

Hamas have proven to date what they are.
