A week has passed and I have had a couple of suggestions, but no great progress. I see some 61 people have read my posting on Ethel, but can I ask again. Does ANYONE ( sorry for the capitals) know ANYTHING about this woman, she could be a VERY IMPORTANT key to a long standing family  mystery

Sue

Ethel Seymour was a blouse specialist, with a shop at 23 Manchester Road ,Burnley. She lived at 173 Manchester Road Burnley

She appears in the following

1.Kellys Directory for Lancashire in 1924

2. The general and Commercial Burnley Directory 13th Edition dated 1923. She is not in the 14th edition dated 1927-28

Does anyone know what happened to this lady, or shop

This is a real longshot, but a very important one to me

Wish I could help you, Sue. I'm afraid I know nothing of this lady, or shop, but I do know the frustration you must be feeling as I have been trying to trace my grandmother in the Bingley area and had no leads from anyone, even the living relatives of her husband, claim to know nothing about her. Hope you get a reply soon.

Sue have you done something dead simple like look up the Seymours in the burnley telephone book?  There are 12 in the book for the whole Blackburn area.  I have rung the one that lives in Burnley and he has been researching his family but he was out, he is going to ring me back.....  who knows, he might be related to you, I'll put you in touch when I have spoken to him.  His number is 01282 459294.  Don't get too excited.........  as my father used to say 'Hold your water Lass!'

Many thanks Stanley. I have sent you an email about this one. I must admit I never thought of the phone book

Sue is this the return from a frequent little trip or the biggie?

And yes...it's been very wet, almost non-stop since you went!

I haven't heard from them, give him a ring, you know how thoughtless some people are.  Another thought is to find where the shop is and ask some questions on the ground, knock on doors.  Send an enquiry to the old folk's homes in the area.  Keep worrying at it.  Someone knows something!

Stanley it looks like the site of the shop has gone, we had a nosey last week when we went to see Dad. I will do the phone bit, but it is a hectic week this weeek, Mel yes, the biggy is coming up, imminent, can't wait!.

We have been in Brittany for 10 days, superb weather, sun every day. There was a cold wind but we northeners didn't notice that!!!!. The veggie plot was a little over grown but a bit of weeding soon sorted that, I now have several neat rows of tatties ( Breton for pomme de terre), a few courgettes and three rows of different onions.

Back home a tropical rainforest has developed, just HOW MUCH RAIN HAVE YOU HAD!!!!

He's tidied the garage out today. We can actually get in there now! Says he taking the night off. Doing nothing at all...not even going for a beer. I have to say, it seems strange to have him at home on a weekend. Strange but nice

He only buys flowers when they are reduced to about £1 at the shop down the road...he's all heart! To be honest with you though Stanley, I don't 'do' flowers. The first time he got me some I had to borrow a vase. I still don't own one. I have no need for one. I prefer to see them in their natural state in the garden.

Imindoors has stripped the seal from around the sink and the bath and replaced it today. He's going to put new taps on as well! I think I like him being home on a weekend!
