The census started in England in 1801 but 1841 is the first that gives names. Try the library for microfilm of census after 1891, ask Karen, I don't know exactly what they have.

Use the address search facility & fill in only the following:
House and/or Street Nutter
Place Keywords Thornton

nothing else.
2 results:
Nutter Cote Cottage
Nutter Cote Farm

both occupied
both in Admin county York
both Civil Parish Thornton
Ecclesiastical Parish Thornton St Mary or St Oswald
Parliamentry Borough Skipton

The rest of the information you have to pay for!

The 1901 search facility can be a bit fussy and will only search on exactly what you put in for an exact match.
