You could try the RSPCA in Accrington on 01254 231118.

One thing I have noticed this year are that on the canal in an evening there are hundreds of bats flying about, a lot more than previous years.

Hi Flutters, I did a quick search and came up with these which may be of use, the first link is UK based, the second is from the USA. I hope they are of use.

There is a telephone no you can ring on this site for advice with grounded bats.

Thank Pan bikerI did  find that one and have phoned them but no-one in!  I may give it aday as it seems to be sleeping and is so cute. It wont be disturbed as it is in aclear plastic bowl with a lid of a propergator over it with big gaps so it can get out.

Im on cat watchand there isnt any children around as my gate,s locked. It seems so small and i first thought on seeing it that it was a large beetle!

When we lived in Glossop we found a pipistrelle collapsed and dehydrated in our loft. We phoned the local vet - and within 30 minutes batman and batwoman zoomed up our drive in their batmobile (disguised as a battered Ford Escort van). They were a specialised bat patrol, on call 24/7.

As bats are a protected species the vets really do seem to pull out all the stops to rescue them. Sadly, in this case our little bat didn't make it, but a quick call to Stanley House vets (they have an out-of-hours emergency service: 01282 863892) might set things in motion.Go to Top of Page

I though t he might be dehydrated so have put a new little kitchen sponge in with him( its soaked in water)and he has climbed up it.

Oh Flutters I do hope he/she makes it - if they do not it won't be for the want of trying.  Where abouts in Earby do you live?

Good news - after his drink from the wet sponge which he enjoyed clinging to , we put him in the lid of a shoe box on top of the wall. He flew off as i looked down at him from an open bedroom window. Im so relieved!Go to Top of Page

A good outcome Flutters, all that was needed was a little TLC.

Flutters, I have an idea that there are more bats about than anyone realises.  You see quite a few at this time of year, easrly in the morning and late at night if you are about.  Glad you got it airborne again, always a problem knowing what to do about young birds etc at this time of the year.  Sad fact is that some have to die, it's inevitable.
