We were woken at six this morning with loud knocking at the front door and the unmistakable figure through the glass of a Policeman, given that our children all live away from here there was immediate concern and fear, However the above picture is of the scene that greeted us, this is all just less than two weeks after a meeting to discuss the traffic problems that manifest Gisburn Rd and Bracewell Lane. As I have posted elsewhere we have just had a distressing weekend and last week I completed security so that our animals can go safely in the garden. At this moment I just dont know where to start.

The new wall is in place and the hedging and other plants are here, sound levels are already coming down. The new hedge will of course have over sixty years of catching up to do.

Peter, a friend of mine had the same problem after replacing a diseased hedge. They took advice and put a fine brown plastic mesh material along the fence behind the new hedge plants. Almost invisible and cut the noise down significantly.

The stuff you are talking about Stanley is "Wind Break" mesh and very effective. In Italy where the Autostrada pass through urban areas they have transparent panels erected to do this job without spoiling the view, these panels have Raptors painted on to deter smaller birds from flying into them.

We've used similar but green material in a roll from a garden centre when we planted hedges here 15 years ago to keep out the west wind and it did a great job. Put plenty of nitrogenous fertiliser on your new hedge next spring, it needs it in order to put on all that new growth.
Perhaps Barlick needs a few people taking their cameras out and photographing the Lithuanian cars. Or even just pretending to photograph them. I was photographing some old houses in our village a few weeks ago when an articulated lorry came through doing well over the speed limit. I turned the camera on it and pretended to take photos and it dropped its speed immediately and I could see the driver looking concerned. He knew he was in the wrong and I could have complained to the company and may have had photos of his vehicle to identify him.

Did you see the news item about the old bloke with the hair dryer in a little village down your way? He said that if you held it up to your eye and pointed it at a speeding car it worked wonderfully!
