Questions about this subject keep cropping up amid closely related topics, so I thought it may be a good idea to expand on the subject. I will not go on about my qualifications to discuss Canal Boats so lets just give it a go and see what transpires.

Most stressful thing there is, keep cool kids, it'll go in the end.

It is a nightmare - obviously if someone comes along who has sold it will be easier. I would not even look now until ours was sold ( that is if I was thinking of moving which I am not)

Call, there are the details of a canal boat for sale in the Jolly Fryer fish and chip shop in Ripon, I couldn't write the phone number down as I had no pen with me, but it looked in very nice nick, lots of picks inside and out, and came in at around 64 thou.

Why would someone look for a new house before they have a buyer? That doesn't make sense to me. You can wait months...years sometimes!

Tinker - if I give you the money for six pennorth of chips, would you check out the boat advert again for us? If it's a widebeam (ie 10ft wide as opposed to a regular narrowboat of 6ft 10in) we'd be interested.Mel - it seems most people check out what's on the market before putting their own house up for sale, at least round here. Of the 6 viewers so far, none have sold theirs. The housing market is flat as a pancake, except for the cheaper properties which first time buyers can just about afford. As BK says, the first to arrange a survey gets the house. And yes, Stanley, we're remaining chilled as we have plenty of other things to get wound up about, not least Boo who had 2 fainting fits while we were away, poor little mite. However, the vet has given her some antibiotics to help stop her coughing (which brings on the faint as her heart can't pump blood to her brain efficiently) as she reckons it might be an infection which is causing phlegm. It seems to have worked and we've discovered Boo's breath-from-hell wasn't her teeth after all! Poor little begger has had a sore throat all these months and we never suspected. Now her breath is like an angel's. |

It's always a good thing to smell their breath and ears, any smell at all is trouble..... Eigg had falling over does in her last couple of years, just her blood circulation slowing down.... I suppose it happens to all of us BUT NOT YET!

Cal, Just rung the Fish and chip shop, sadly the boat is the regulation 6ft 10 ins wide, so I guess it's a "no go"... anyway the phone no re the boat is 0773 883 0623 if you want to find out more. (thought it better to decline your offer of more chips... i have a bit of a widebeam myself!)

Thanks for taking the trouble, Tinker - and well done for resisting the chips!Know what you mean about widebeam - we were discussing only last night about how the bed seems to have narrowed a bit and we don't have as much room as we used to. It must be something they've put in the water, as our clothes also seem to have shrunk... |

Alas, a bit too posh and upmarket for our budget... (And I think it was posted by Gus?)Quick update: Two people interested in house but still the chain isn't broken. The boat we had our eye on is now up for sale on t'Internet (for 10 grand more) as understandably the bloke needs to sell it and get his money. I don't blame him one bit. So assuming we er, miss the boat on that one we've come up with Plan N. If Thomo's around I'd like to bend his ear. Art theer, lad? |
