"Explore The Barnoldswick Countryside" - a  book of 10 local circular walks - is now available from members of the Let's Walk and Talk group and selected local shops, including The Council Shop.

Or send me a PM and I'll make sure you get your copies, either delivered by hand or posted. (Please note, any hand deliveries to Australia or anywhere further away than a 3-mile radius of Barlick town centre will have to pay travel costs too :–)

Featuring photography by Kevin Hylands, Steve King and Heather Sheldrick, the 48-page A5 book provides easy-to-read directions and simple maps to help you discover the paths and beautiful countryside that surround Barnoldswick.

Walking is a great way to get fit or relax after a hard week's work so now there's no excuse for being a couch potato!

Priced at just £4, it will make a delightful Christmas present - especially for  Barlickers in Exile - as it pictures our stunning scenery together with short  descriptions of places of interest such as Gill Church and Bancroft Mill.

Local books are sold at Barden Mill and the Heritage Centre at Barrowford may be another outlet.

Thanks Moh. The only problem is that, as commercial organisations, they not unreasonably want to take their cut.

As our book is a non-profit-making venture we kept the cover price as low as possible which leaves no margin for the 35% or so of £4 that we'd have to give them.

The book was a labour of love but I'm not so full of the milk of human kindness as to actually lose money! Lord knows I have little enough of the stuff as it is (money I mean, not kindness...) Go to Top of Page

Heather, just a thought, Sue at the Monks House B & B gets quite a few walkers, might be an outlet for you.

Of course it is, Gus - thanks!

Sold quite a few more copies at the Health & Wellbeing Fair at the Rainhall Centre last Saturday and to date there are some Watchers on eBay, but they haven't actually dug into their pockets yet.

We've made a start on the next book, planning to include a couple of longer routes (Weets and Stock). And this time maybe a spread about the Cistercian Abbey story.

Also looking into doing a cycling book if we can get Hope Technology interested.

Good to see a half page article, on page 4 of the BET on Friday, about the book, the walk and talk group and the second book. All good stuff.,

Yes, the BET did us proud.

We put in a request for sponsorship/advertising and so far we've had two responses: One Guy From Barlick website (whoever they are lolol ) and one other business. It took my mother and I such a long time last year trying to extract £30 from shops for a quarter page advert that we thought we'd try a short cut.

I've rashly promised to have the book printed by Christmas but at the rate things are going, I might not manage it. I ventured out with my little camera t'other weekend and completed the checking of one of the walks, but I've got another 11 to complete (two of which are longer - Weets and Stock).

BK and P were enormously helpful last year ... if you wanted to do it again, just say! But I know you're both mega busy these days.

If anyone else wants to volunteer too (checking the route's instructions for accuracy together with taking photos of interesting views along the way) then just let me know!

I had hoped to get round a few, for the pics, but the weather has not been kind. I don't have a waterproof case for my camera...
