The Power went down on our estate at 2.00a.m today. After numerous automated response phone calls the prognosis was not good. Power should be returened to most people by 9.00am thursday, possibly as early as 17.00pm  today.

It was cold in our house but at least we had the woodburning stove that Bob installed in October. My elderly neighbours decided to go out for morning coffee, on their return they decided to go out for lunch. Taking them as an example Bob and I went out to Hebden Bridge to do a small ordering job, then afternoon tea in Todmorden. So leaving the fire stacked up and the doors to various rooms wide open we went out for 3 hours

On our return we have electricity , but not restored power, but a mobile generator across the road chugging away.  Most people around here are totally electricity dependent. The elderly must really have felt it today . I did and I am only... well you know I  was 60 in January.

However, it was a good opportunity to have a hobble outside. The stitches come out of my foot tomorrow.

Good news about stitches, progress. As for power, we never miss the water 'til the well runs dry. That's why I bang on about government policy in this area. My Tilley Lamps are primed and ready and I have a bit of coal in stock!

Bob has bought a petrol fired generator, but never had to use it yet

You'll not be surprised to hear I've considered that. One thing is certain if power cuts do strike, the cost of portable generators will go up and they will be as scarce as hen's teeth. A wise move I reckon. Give it a run every now and again to make sure it's serviceable and have a dry run at lights and powering the freezer and boiler.
