I've been thinking of starting this topic for a while. Let's see how it goes....
Asked if he was in charge of the nation, in the absence of the Prime Minister - Mr Clegg told Metro: ‘Yeah, I suppose I am. I forgot about that.’

Speaking of spoons and supping - there is a pub at Brougton near Preston which has quotes painted on the walls. I particularly remember this one. A bit harsh perhaps, even early Thatcherism?
"If it was raining porage, the poor would have no spoons"

It's funny how some quotations stick in your mind. I remember one from the Beachcomber column. 'Everything up the flue. If cabbages were made of sealing wax your head would be melting.' No why has that stuck in my head for over 50 years?

I've just finished reading a book by Brian Harrison about feminists between the FIrst and Second World War and there were some great quotes in there. This one sticks in my mind:
"Amongst crowds of young women, the emancipation of today displays itself mainly in cigarettes and shorts" (Sylvia Pankhurst).

"French put pressure on your dandruff." is one I have heard once or twice "darn sarf". I have no idea what it means.

" Nana why is Grandad Dressed like he is Pretending to go to Work " was the quote of the day when our Grandaughter saw me in a Shirt & Tie with Blazer going for an interview as a volunteer for a Military Museum.

Japanese lady giving latest news on the nuclear plants. "The problem is it is inside the reactor and we can't see it". Quite!
