Radio Netherlands Broadcasting in exile (1940-1945)The Dutch government in exile was granted air-time on BBC transmitters in 1941. The programme Radio Oranje was a daily commentary on the Dutch situation both in the Netherlands and the rest of the empire (Dutch East and West Indies).
( The Hilversum [ Huizen Transmitter ] were used for pro-Nazi broadcasts, some originating from Germany, others concerts from Dutch broadcasters under German control)

We went to a talk on an author called Christopher Bush who also wrote books under the name Michael Home. As Michael Home he wrote thinly disguised biographies of his life in Great Hockham and the people within the village. He was born in the 1885 so his books give a particular view of village life which is gone forever. Some of his family members were at the talk and added insight to this (slightly peculiar) character. Very interesting talk. I would also recommend his books written under the Michael Home pen name not having read any Christopher Bush books.

Interested to see you are like me Jules. Up early even on a Sunday! I don't know about you but I can't lie in bed in the morning. I have no difficulty in having two hours sleep in the afternoon but mornings don't work. Have a nice day.... (You're not working are you?)

I have no reason to think that it is "constructed"..
It is disturbing , and underlines the need for constant vigilance in the recruiting process when it comes to public servants.....

Ted, I had to mow the lawn yesterday, the grass has shot up to about 4 inches high. The roses are flowering, as are lots of other plants. Next year's leaf buds on a Japanese maple are opening.

Can someone please explain to me how water from a burst water pipe in a road in the Wirral manages to get into the gas supply? Apparently 20,000 litres of water has had to be pumped out of the gas pipes. Surely the gas pipes are a closed system otherwise there would have been a previous fault of a gas leak!
4,000 consumers have been without gas over the weekend and are now being re-connected.
Am I missing something?

It's all part of the mixed up way that each of the utility companies supply everything......Gas,Water and Electriciy all now delivered to your door on the same Lorry, and you can choose who sends you the bill..... Marvelous......
Don't know how they do it !

If the mains were deep enough the water main burst could have fractured the gas main and filled it with water due to the water pressure being far higher round the gas pipe than the gas.
Belle, all down to Martha. She sends me these snippets because she knows I am on her side!
