Thank for the input Thomo good idea. Richard to climb the greasy pole is normally to show that you wish to achieve more with your life than just taking part, I would have thought in Public Service it would be the norm. Like in the Police Force, Fire Service and even the Armed Forces. Not wishing to advance and then saying I can't afford this, that or the other is just a cop out. I stand by my first statement.

''Richard to climb the greasy pole is normally to show that you wish to achieve more with your life than just taking part''
That's a very narrow definition of achieving more in your life. Is it not possible to give of your best in whatever role you have chosen, happy and secure in the position (and associated reward) you have and not wanting any further responsibility? Is that not a perfectly legitimate choice in your book? You can achieve an exceptional amount in life without seeking advancement, either monetarily or professionally. Indeed, the Big Society rather depends on it.
To be honest, the best strategy for population control, if we have to use that rather distasteful term, is frank and comprehensive sex education starting at 5 or 6 and continuing through school emphasising the importance of relationships and mutual respect; free and wide access to contraception and a good network of sexual health clinics. Just the sort of thing that goes down like a lead balloon in this country, but is quite normal practice in much of mainland Europe (who of course are corrupted by it and are 'at it' like rabbits....................).

Is that not a perfectly legitimate choice in your book yep but don't mumble on about life is unfair !!! To be honest, the best strategy for population control is sex education. Come on Richard when you have had one, you know how to make another. We are not on about teenage pregancy here, it's a lot more deeper than that. It is infact a worldwide problem.

If population control is good enough for animals, then its good enough for us well. A lot of things get dressed up in fancy language and giving something a different name does not alter the fact that the original means what it says. There are thousands of unwanted and unloved kids on this planet, isnt it strange that some cultures will not adopt either kids from the same culture and certainly not from others, and yet people of these cultures expect to be treated equally with the rest of us. They prefer to produce their own, and do so in large numbers, producing unsustainable demands on the planet at the same time. When the phrase "Feed the world" was born, I dont believe it was meant to be taken literally. There are two ways to overcome, one is by good tactical skills and the other is by sheer weight of numbers. In this country we have a considerable number of young women who's sole purpose is to produce babies as fast as they are able, trying to educate these young women as is suggested would be difficult, nay impossible, having already been taught by senior members of the family, who would not take kindly to being told how to manage their affairs regardless of the problems they can generate. This country for all the good things about it is not made of elastic, and there are already more people in it than in some countries many times its size, this cannot go on!!

As yet Thomo, clever though women are, they have not managed to have babies without men. you are quite right there are thousands of young women bringing up babies in this country..the men have b*****ed off!

The interesting thing about this topic is that no one has yet mentioned that it was the post war labour government that introduced "Family Allowance" in an attempt to INCREASE the population growth rate. The first child did not qualify but the subequent ones did. Of course since then profligacy has known no bounds either monetarily or reproductively (by accident or design).
Every silver lining has a cloud.

Belle, if you think that I am blaming the young women, then you couldn't be more wrong. Please read what is written carefully before lifting safety's. If you take rape out of the equation it still takes two to produce a child, or at least it used to. How many times have I seen film of women struggling to bring up children on their own, and how many times do you think I have seen this in such countries as Africa and certain parts of the Middle and Far East, left to fend for themselves whilst their "husbands" move on. We have two young married couples in our family who have both decided not to have children, because as they see it, the future is uncertain, The obligation to bear fruit has been overtaken by the thought of what would the future hold for their offspring. This of course is an individual choice and I admire them for it, plenty of others will make up for their abstention from family life. No child should be brought into a world like ours just because it was fun at the time. And the rest of us should not have to bear the cost.

Not sure what your reply is about really Thomo, i did read your post carefully, I did address what you said, " In this country we have a considerable number of young women who's sole purpose is to produce babies as fast as they are able, trying to educate these young women as is suggested would be difficult, nay impossible, trouble is when you reply to me you seem to have forgotten what you said or maybe you just don't make your point as successfully as you think you have.

Then I will try again, Maybe I didnt word it too well, but then I was an engineer and I see things in black and white. For sole purpose, read this. "It is determined that this will be their future regardless of their own personal ambitions, or it is not up to them, it is an obligation. Is that clear enough? and I know this from a young woman who has risked much in merely telling me about it. this was not something I read about, it was in my face. And she is not on her own. There are many who face this obligation who do not have the courage or support to speak out about it, this I am not happy about.

Much clearer Thomo thanks, now i understand what you are driving at. Both scenarios mentioned by me and you are ones where women are exploited by men. More importantly why are we both up so late?

Latest version of funding action in Libya is that it will come out of the Treasury Contingency fund, so not the MOD budget alone.
We are assured by Danny Alexander that increased taxes on oil companies will not be passed onto pump prices. Oh good!
Osborne budget containe some good ideas. Question is will we see them translated into action? I seem to have heard speeches like this before.

Is it my imagination or has the volume been turned down on praise of Warlord Cameron leading the world into action in Libya? No clarity yet as to who is actually running the show, I hear NATO are forming a 'Steering Group' with limited responsibilities. God save us! They will be doing focus groups next.

Did anyone catch Ed Balls response to the budget ?? When we were in Goverment the Tories called for Lighter Regulation of the Banks. We should not have listened to them !!! Looks like when things go wrong it's now the oppositions fault. Priceless
