Could we have a bird waching forum please? Imindoors has had an SLR for his 40th and is snapping away more than ever. I'd love to show you some of the results. The pictures include deer, birds, frogs, bugs. Maybe general wildlife would be better?

Herons are frequent  all allong pendle Water from the Water Meetings down to the park. Kingfishers are common in the area but I will not be more specific as their eggs are popular with collectors. Nolic

Collectors are still about Moh.  Doc told me the other day that the Eagle Owl is still about up on Weets.  I was talking to a man who was at the market on Saturday with an eagle owl and he I told him about the one on Weets and that Carole reckoned it's wing span was nearly the width of the track.  He said it was quite possible, 5 or 6 feet span isn't uncommon but at that size it must be a female, the males don't reach that size.  Nice to know it still survives......

Great Photos!  It would be interesting to know where everyone lives when bird sightings are posted.  You all seem to see more than me!  I just get Starlings, Sparrows, Blue & Great Tits, Gold Finches, Green Finches, a Dunnock, Chaffinch, Robins, Collared Dove, bog stand Pigeons, Black Birds and a Buzzard or Sparrow Hawk in next door's garden eating a pigeon - and no I had no camera or witness either.  That's in Hounslow, West London so not bad I think.  Just out of interest, I bought a nigella seed feeder especially for the finches - and they love to concentrate on the seed!  Does any one else have takers for nigella seed?  Plus do your birds pick through the seed, throwing it on the floor till they find what they want.  I find lots of mine is wasted - though a few sunflowers have been sown by them!

Ours pick through and throw on the floor what they don't like, but the blackbirds, doves etc. pick if off the floor so nothing is wasted.  Saw storks nesting on tall chimneys in Portugal on Sunday.

A footpath has been closed in Lancashire following repeated attacks on dog walkers by a pair of nesting eagle owls.
The birds, who are raising their chicks at Dunsop Bridge in Bowland, have become particularly territorial.

It was in the Lot Valley in south west France Ray. All of the birds I have posted were taken in the same garden.

I keep forgetting to mention that last week I got closer to a heron than I have ever been in my life.  It was in Dam Head Park in Barlick near the beck at about 07:00 and it was stood near the path having a crap in the grass. It must have been enjoying itself because we got to within 30 feet of it before it realised we were there.  Jack was fascinated by the smell where it had stood.  I even heard the sound of its first wing beat as it took off.

One flies over our house regularly - I think it goes to the lake in Rowley Wood.  One day it landed on the garage of the house across, they have a fish pond but keep net over it, so it would be disappointed at missing its supper.

I had a visitor of a different kind today, a beautiful lizard.  When I viewed this place (to rent) last November, I noticed a lizard under one of the bushes, the owner told me that he comes by once a year.  By my reckoning he is a week early, but hopefully that means he will hang around for a week.  He seemed to know exactly where he was, and even came to my sliding doors and pawed the glass, had a good look inside, and sunned himself for a few minutes even tho our cat was right there on the inside 'puffing herself, pacing and making strange noises'.  He was about 16inches long, brown and dark gold, very pretty.
