Who would want to plant a suspicious package on the school field in that weather? Whats the world coming to eh.

The road to the High school was closed off, but why was the town sqare and frank st shut off or is that road works. it was all very confusing.

It is the current police technique for causing the greatest inconvenience to the populace that they can, in order to show just how much power, control and "concern for the public" they have.(Lessons from American TV  cop shows)
You should think yourself lucky that you do not live in a country where the police do not care about the disruption they cause.

People would be quick enough to complain if a bomb HAD gone off and the public hadn't been warned. I'd rather the police erred on the side of caution. If they didn't, and people were killed or injured because of it, then they'd come in for loads of criticism.

I'd rather put up with the inconvenience of having a few minutes' longer journey time and the same goes for having my bags searched etc.

I thought this thread was about the planned 4 day closure of the Co-Op in October, or the continued perpetual digging up of the roads/clearing fo the drains in the town centre.

You aint seen nothing yet! The Flower show has the same impact on Harrogate as the Yorkshire show....traffic at a standstill, especially if you want to go toward Wetherby. i did want to go down the motorway this morning so i opted for the Leeds road out of Harrogate...only to find a lorry had broken down on it and traffic was at a standstill....it could be a plot to make us all sick enough of trying to travel in our cars that we don't mind giving  them up. After all the Govt only has 4 years to reduce carbon emissions by 70% (think that's what they said on last night news) The next trick will be hours of waiting before boarding a plane...Oh, no,...they've already got that one in place.

Just a little postscript to say i am heartily in favour of trying to reduce car use...and as a person who has only flown 3 times in over 50 years, i am not in danger of adding to the problems that way!

I'm all in favour of them digging up the roads, refurbished water mains, new major gas mains, drainage works, the more the better.  Wait until BT get round to installing fibre optic cable.....  Can't wait for it.  In fact the recent traffic lights in town made it a lot easier to cross the road....

Didnt BT mark out the roads and pavements where they were going to dig up last year only to find that Balfour Beaty  had dug where they wanted to dig?

So instead of joining forces and getting all the work done at once they wait till 18 months later.

I think they took the decision that BB had got there first and it would be a bad idea to do their works while the roads were already dug up.  All the tracks are marked and I suppose they'll eventually get round to it.  My point is that small local diruption of traffic is a small price to pay for better services.  Anyone who thinks traffic in Barlick is bad should get out of town more......

You only have to try and get off the M65 at Colne in an evening and it is chaos, the further south you go the worse it gets

All this does not happen by accident you know. There is a lot of research and planning done before anything like the end of the M65  is constructed. Very often the research and planning work is given to universities and the task is undertaken by students, who have a lifetimes experience of traffic problems. So you can be sure the job was done thoroughly, because there are many of them who can rede  and rite and sum of them can do fairly ard somes.

There's been a slight improvement since H and I sold our gas guzzlers.  WE'VE DONE OUR BIT!

Belle - I have personally found that the occurence of a "Y" in the day and a number in the hour causes traffic problems in Harrogate

I'm amazed there isn't a bypass yet as it must be hellish living in the middle by the mian roads.

It shows how out of touch I am, 6 years ago I had cause to be in Cambridge for a couple of days and I was amazed how bad the traffic was.  Crossing even the minor roads in the suburbs was a major project during the 'rush hour' which seemed to last from 7am to 10am.  My version of living in hell I'm afraid.

Cambridge is a walk in the park compared to some areas, too.
