One of the wonderful things about our country is the diversity of place names, some of which, the origins are quite vague. Barnoldswick is where most of us are,, twelve letters, none repeated, it was at one time registered as the longest place name as such. Stixwold, Tumby Woodside, Piddletrenthide, Affpuddle, the list is endless. One of my favourites is "Nemphnet Thrubwell sounds like a hangover" and before I snuff it , I want to have a look. But "Wooton Basset", we surely have all heard of. A beautiful English town which has been transformed into a place of honouring  the sadness of conflict. Few weeks go by without the sight of  its people paying their respects to the young men and women of this country passing through, now joined by members of the families of the fallen. The sight of the Globemaster Aircraft arirving at RAF Lyneham and discharging their solemn cargoes, the slow and dignified progress through this lovely place. I like a "Wet" and I am going to make sure that I have one in the "Cross Keys" in Wooton Basset, and thank the landlady and all present for what they have done and continue to do. They have been given an award in the past week and they deserve it. So my good wishes this Christmas go to the people of "Wooton Basset". Bless you all, have a good Christmas and may your welcome duties soon be discharged.

Flutterby, you are not the first, its easily done, there cannot be many place names in the UK with so many double letters. But what you propose is an excelent idea. "Royal Wootton Bassett" sounds well, now whom can I lean on?.

Be careful in accessing "islam4uk" sites, the first one I tried brought up a virus warning so I backed out.  The second was the official site, read the letter to families, then tried to move to "about us" but got a "forbidden access " message saying "you are not authorized to access this page", I was unable to return to the letter.  If the group is on the banned list in the UK, why is this self declared leader not removed from the country?

Herb,  Omar Bakri Mohammed is banned from the UK and is said to be in the Lebanon. Choudary's Islam4UK provides him with a platform in the UK via their web site but the Islam4UK organisation is not banned.

Latest BBC News at 7.25pm UK time:

Johnson 'will back' Wootton Bassett Islamic march ban

"The home secretary has said he will back any request from police or local government to ban a radical Islamic group marching through Wootton Bassett. lan Johnson said he felt "revulsion" at the thought of Islam4UK's proposed march through the Wiltshire town....[more here]

Have to admit  that my other half had the idea, but it would be a good thing for the royals to do to add the Royal.

Well Godron has spoken out against the march, butSir Hugh Orde has said it should be allowed to go ahead because they do have the right to march.  As the President of the Association of Chiefs of Police is he just looking for the "action" or is he just plain stupid?

I was going to capture the text that went with these pics and precis it  but I can now no longer access it, so what follows is from memory:
"When the British people see this, they will cease to resist the faith which is the only one that can re-build Britain". My take: "If" they got thus far, it would likely be the only mosque in UK.

The fountain in Trafalgar Square. The addition of wash basins etc at one side would create a public bathing place, look to the left and you can see one of the enourmous golden urns that will replace the Bronze Lions which are a symbol of British decadence, these urns will be filled with gold coins, I do not recall the reason for this. Another pic showed the result of re-modeling the Crown Jewels, Orb and Sceptre etc to provide gifts to give to single Women and Widows who professed a desire to marry I thought that they had little to say in this matter!.

Last picture I have is this one and being an ex Matelot I will not dignify it with a comment.
Other bits I recall are, Anyone caught under the influence of alcohol will be publicly flogged, the diatribe just goes on from there. No, if they want to clean somewhere up, best they return whence they came and do it there, "Whilst they are still able"!!! The only ones who will lose out are the many decent law abiding muslims who have genuinely made this their home.

Yesterday the BBC put a page on its web site profiling Islam4UK. Particularly notable is the line: "Islam4UK/al-Muhajiroun's leaders have a track record of planning events that never actually happen, but cause enormous media uproar." In other words they achieve their objective of disruption in the UK by simply threatening to do things, while not actually carrying them out.

A guarded thank you to islam4uk for dropping the idea, now go back to the land of your fathers and leave us alone.

How nice for them that they can plan these things without fear of some murderous fanatic strapping explosives to them selves and running into their demonstration.

Dave Letterman had a funny comment about the "underpant bomber" who set his undies on fire aboard a jet landing in Detroit, the bomb failed to explode and the so called bomber was burned.  Letterman's point was that if this whacko was set to go to the land of 10,000 virgins by blowing himself up he picked a bad place to put the bomb!

I have always been amused by the 10,000 virgins concept, sex must be very difficult when you have been atomised.
